CB Benicarlo delivered a commanding home performance on October 12, 2026, defeating Refitel Nadunet Basquet Lliria 73-61 in Spain Segunda FEB. A dominant second quarter proved to be the difference, as Benicarlo turned a tight opening period into a double-digit halftime lead and never allowed the visitors to mount a serious comeback.

The final score reflects Benicarlo's control over long stretches of the game. Their defense limited Lliria to 61 points, the kind of low output that often decides Segunda FEB contests. With the win, Benicarlo reinforced their home-court advantage and added an important result to their season resume.

Match Overview

Benicarlo started with energy on both ends, but Lliria stayed close early behind timely outside shooting. The first quarter ended 18-14 in favor of the home side, with neither team able to establish a significant advantage. The second quarter, however, changed everything. Benicarlo ramped up their defensive pressure, forced turnovers, and converted them into easy transition baskets, outscoring Lliria 20-12 to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.

Lliria improved after the break and matched Benicarlo for much of the second half, but the halftime deficit proved too large. Every time the visitors threatened to cut the lead to single digits, Benicarlo responded with a key basket or a defensive stop. The home side's composure in the fourth quarter ensured there would be no late drama.

Key Moments

The decisive run came midway through the second quarter. With Benicarlo leading 24-18, they rattled off ten unanswered points over a three-minute stretch, capped by a corner three-pointer and a fast-break layup. That burst pushed the lead to 34-18 and forced Lliria into a timeout. Although Lliria steadied themselves before halftime, the momentum had already shifted firmly in Benicarlo's favor.

In the fourth quarter, Lliria made one final push, trimming the lead to 12 points with six minutes remaining. Benicarlo answered immediately with a patient possession that ended in an open jumper from the elbow, and then forced a shot-clock violation on the next defensive trip. Those two sequences effectively sealed the result.

Tactical Story

Benicarlo's defensive game plan focused on clogging the paint and contesting Lliria's perimeter shots. The visitors rely on ball movement and outside shooting, but Benicarlo's closeouts were consistently quick, forcing contested attempts. On offense, Benicarlo attacked the basket early and often, drawing fouls and generating high-percentage looks.

Lliria struggled to find rhythm against Benicarlo's switching defense. Their guards were unable to turn the corner consistently, and when they did get into the lane, Benicarlo's big men altered shots at the rim. The rebounding battle also favored the home side, limiting Lliria's second-chance opportunities.

Standout Players

Pau Cervera led CB Benicarlo with 19 points, shooting efficiently from the field and knocking down three three-pointers. He also added five rebounds and four assists. Forward Iker Sanz was a force inside, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while point guard Marc Vives controlled the tempo with 11 points and seven assists.

For Refitel Nadunet Basquet Lliria, Jorge Molina scored a team-high 16 points, but he had to work hard for every look. Sergi Ferrer added 12 points and six rebounds, and Pablo Ortega chipped in 10 points off the bench. Despite their efforts, Lliria could not overcome Benicarlo's balanced attack and defensive intensity.

Season Impact

The 73-61 victory moves CB Benicarlo into a stronger position in the Spain Segunda FEB standings. It was a statement win at home and a reminder that they can dictate games with defense. For Lliria, the loss is a setback, but the team showed enough fight in the second half to suggest they will remain competitive in the coming rounds.

With the final score 73-61, Benicarlo will look to build on this performance as they continue their campaign. The head-to-head result could become relevant later in the season, especially if both teams are battling for similar positions in the table.
