Basket Cartagena edged CB Prat Joventut 85-82 in a tense Spain Segunda FEB encounter, sealing the win with composed execution in the final minutes of a game that swung back and forth throughout. In a matchup featuring two teams with contrasting styles, the hosts' late-game poise and their ability to generate quality shots in the clutch proved just enough to hold off a spirited Prat side that refused to go away.

Match Overview

The contest was everything Segunda FEB basketball promises: competitive, physical, and decided by small details. Cartagena came out with intent, using their home crowd to fuel an aggressive start that put Prat on the back foot early. But the visitors responded with characteristic resilience, leaning on their structured half-court offense and disciplined defensive rotations to claw their way back into the game.

By halftime the difference was negligible, setting up a second half that felt like a series of small battles — a run here, a response there, and neither team able to land a decisive blow until the closing minutes.

Key Stretches

Cartagena's best spell came in the third quarter, when their ball movement stretched Prat's defense and created open looks from the perimeter. A quick burst of scoring opened the first meaningful gap of the contest and forced the visitors into a timeout to regroup.

Prat's answer was immediate. Their guards began attacking the paint with purpose, drawing fouls and generating second-chance points through sheer persistence on the offensive glass. That resilience turned what looked like a potential Cartagena pull-away into a one-possession game heading into the fourth quarter.

The Clutch Stretch

With the game on the line, Cartagena's half-court execution came to the fore. They worked the clock, attacked mismatches when they appeared, and converted crucial free throws to maintain a slender advantage. Prat had opportunities to level the score late, but a pair of missed shots and a turnover in the final minute proved costly.

The decisive moments were not spectacular but instead the product of discipline: a well-timed offensive rebound, a smart foul drawn on a drive, and a defensive stop anchored by solid help rotation. That sequence of small wins added up to a three-point margin that Prat could not erase.

Tactical Breakdown

• Cartagena: Emphasised ball movement and interior passing, using their bigs as facilitators to create open perimeter looks.
• Prat: Relied on penetration and offensive rebounding to stay in the game, punishing any defensive breakdown with quick second-chance points.
• The difference: Cartagena's late-game shot selection and free-throw accuracy against Prat's slightly rushed possessions in the final minutes.

Standout Performers and Table Impact

Cartagena's guards controlled the tempo when it mattered most, while their frontcourt players delivered the physical presence needed to compete on the boards. For Prat Joventut, the backcourt's aggression and the team's rebounding effort were the standout features of an otherwise frustrating evening.

The victory is a meaningful one for Basket Cartagena, reinforcing their home-court strength and adding a closely contested win to an increasingly competitive Segunda FEB campaign. For CB Prat Joventut, the three-point loss is a reminder of how fine the margins are in this league, and how much value lies in executing late-game possessions with the same clarity as the rest of the game.
