Grosuplje claimed a 91-83 home victory over Ipros Vrhnika in the Slovenia Basketball Cup on 21 October 2026, using a composed closing stretch to secure a hard-fought knockout win. The contest was competitive for long stretches, but Grosuplje found the extra scoring punch and defensive stops needed in the final minutes to protect their advantage and move forward in the competition.

Match overview

Grosuplje set the tone with an aggressive start, attacking the basket early and forcing Ipros Vrhnika into difficult half-court possessions. The visitors stayed within reach thanks to perimeter shooting and transition baskets, keeping the game close through the opening quarter. Grosuplje held a narrow 45-41 lead at halftime, with both teams trading runs and neither side able to establish full control.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern. Ipros Vrhnika briefly edged ahead after a burst of three-point shooting, but Grosuplje responded with points in the paint and second-chance opportunities. Entering the fourth quarter, the game was still finely balanced, setting up a tense finish in which Grosuplje’s execution and free-throw shooting made the difference.

Key moments

• Grosuplje opened with an early 8-0 run, forcing Ipros Vrhnika to call timeout and adjust its defensive matchups.
• Ipros Vrhnika answered with a strong second-quarter spell from beyond the arc, briefly taking the lead before halftime.
• A 10-2 run late in the fourth quarter gave Grosuplje the breathing room they needed, turning a tight game into a decisive advantage.
• Grosuplje converted key free throws in the final two minutes to close out the 91-83 win.

Tactical story

Grosuplje’s offensive approach was built around inside scoring and offensive rebounding. They repeatedly attacked the rim, drew fouls, and created extra possessions with activity on the glass. That interior pressure helped them offset Ipros Vrhnika’s three-point shooting and kept the home side in control during the game’s key moments.

Ipros Vrhnika remained dangerous from the perimeter and used quick ball movement to find open looks, but their late turnovers and missed shots proved costly. Grosuplje’s defense tightened in the fourth quarter, forcing contested attempts and limiting second-chance points at the other end.

Standout performers

Grosuplje’s backcourt controlled the tempo well, mixing patient half-court possessions with timely transition attacks. The home side’s interior players also made a major impact, finishing around the basket and winning important rebounds. For Ipros Vrhnika, the perimeter scorers kept the team alive for much of the game, but the visitors could not sustain that efficiency down the stretch.

What it means

The result sends Grosuplje through in the Slovenia Basketball Cup and gives the team confidence ahead of its next fixtures. For Ipros Vrhnika, the 91-83 defeat is a frustrating near-miss, but the performance showed enough offensive promise to suggest they can compete in future cup ties. The final scoreline reflects a game that was close for three quarters before Grosuplje’s late execution decided it.
