### Singapore NBL Division 1: SG Basketball Hold Off Xin Hua Novu Blaze 74-71 SG Basketball edged out Xin Hua Novu Blaze 74-71 in a tightly contested Singapore NBL Division 1 encounter on 6 September 2026. The home side built a lead in the third quarter and then survived a late frenzy from the visitors to secure an important win in the league standings. #### Match Overview The match was competitive from the opening basket, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the first half. Xin Hua Novu Blaze came out aggressive, pushing the ball in transition and knocking down outside shots. SG Basketball responded with a more methodical approach, working the ball inside and finding open looks from mid-range. Slightly behind at halftime, SG Basketball came out with renewed energy after the break. A 12–3 run early in the third quarter gave them control, and they carried that momentum into the final period. Xin Hua Novu Blaze made one last charge in the closing minutes, cutting the deficit to a single possession, but SG Basketball’s defense held firm to seal a 74-71 victory. #### Key Turning Point The momentum shifted early in the third quarter when SG Basketball changed their defensive scheme, switching more aggressively on screens and forcing Xin Hua into difficult isolation plays. That adjustment triggered the decisive run and gave SG Basketball the lead they would never relinquish. In the last minute, Xin Hua had a chance to tie the game from beyond the arc, but a well-contested three-point attempt fell short. SG Basketball secured the rebound and closed out the game from the free-throw line. #### Tactical Notes SG Basketball’s victory was anchored by their half-court defense. They limited Xin Hua’s fast-break opportunities in the second half and controlled the defensive glass. On offense, they relied on high-percentage shots close to the basket, which kept their shooting percentage efficient throughout the contest. Xin Hua Novu Blaze showed offensive firepower early but struggled to maintain that rhythm after halftime. Their guards were forced into tough shot attempts, and a series of turnovers during SG Basketball’s key run proved costly. #### Top Performers SG Basketball’s frontcourt made the biggest impact in this NBL Division 1 fixture. The power forward led all scorers and was a consistent presence on the boards, while the center added several important blocks. The starting point guard also made crucial plays in the fourth quarter, including an assist that led to a momentum-sealing basket. For Xin Hua Novu Blaze, the team’s leading scorer kept them in the contest with a sharp shooting night from outside. Despite the loss, their performance showed they can compete with the league’s stronger sides when they execute their game plan. #### Standings Impact This result provides SG Basketball with a valuable win as the Singapore NBL Division 1 season progresses. Victories in close games like this often prove significant when playoff seedings are determined. Xin Hua Novu Blaze, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to take something from the match, but their competitive display suggests they can challenge opponents on another night. With NBL Division 1 action continuing, SG Basketball will look to build on this momentum, while Xin Hua Novu Blaze will aim to convert their promising performances into results.
