Assigeco Banca Popolare edged Siaz Basket 63–62 in a genuinely tense Serie B Basket fixture on Sunday, winning on the road in a game that came down to the final possession. In a contest where neither team ever led by more than seven, the visitors' late execution proved just enough.

Match overview

Serie B Basket is known for its physical, defense-first basketball, and this game was a perfect advertisement for the division. Both teams shot below their season norms, both teams turned the ball over under pressure, and the scoreboard stayed agonisingly close from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

Quarter-by-quarter breakdown

• Q1: Siaz 16–15 Assigeco
• Q2: Assigeco 18–14 Siaz (half-time: 33–30 Assigeco)
• Q3: Siaz 17–16 Assigeco (end of third: 49–47 Assigeco)
• Q4: Siaz 15–14 Assigeco (final: 63–62 Assigeco)

Siaz actually out-scored Assigeco in three of the four quarters, but the second period — a 18–14 Assigeco advantage — proved to be the difference in a one-point game. That four-point swing was the only meaningful run either team managed all night.

Tactical story: a chess match in the half court

Both coaches clearly prioritised defensive discipline. Assigeco built their night on a compact man-to-man defense that clogged the paint and forced Siaz into three-point attempts late in the shot clock. Siaz responded by attacking the offensive glass and generating second-chance points that kept them within a single possession.

On offense, Assigeco were patient and unspectacular in the best sense. They ran their sets, hunted mismatches, and got to the free-throw line when the game tightened. In a contest decided by one point, that ability to manufacture points without needing a made field goal was decisive.

The final two minutes were pure tension: a Siaz basket to cut the lead to one, a defensive stop, and then a missed opportunity at the other end as time expired. That sequence sums up a game where both defenses were a step ahead of both offenses.

Standout performers

Assigeco's backcourt handled the late-game pressure impressively, controlling the ball and making sensible decisions when the crowd was at its loudest. Their frontcourt players did the dirty work on the defensive boards and were instrumental in limiting Siaz's second-chance opportunities in the fourth quarter.

For Siaz Basket, the performance was agonisingly close to a win. Their perimeter shooting kept them in the game, and their rebounding effort on the offensive end gave them extra possessions, but a handful of empty trips in the closing minutes proved costly. In a one-point loss, every missed free throw and every turnover is magnified.

Serie B Basket table impact

Road wins in Serie B Basket are valuable currency. In a division where promotion playoffs and relegation play-outs are often separated by only a few wins, a 63–62 victory away from home can shape a season. Assigeco take the two points and the head-to-head advantage; Siaz take a moral victory and a clear list of small details to fix.

The return fixture now carries extra weight, and both teams will know it. On the evidence of Sunday night, the rematch should be just as tight.

Key takeaways

• Assigeco won by a single point despite Siaz winning three of the four quarters.
• A 18–14 second quarter was the only significant run of the game.
• Both teams shot poorly; defense and free throws decided the outcome.
• The result gives Assigeco a valuable road win and early head-to-head edge.
