The Legnano Knights opened their Serie B Basket campaign with a statement, beating Lombardy rivals Aurora Desio 79-67 in front of a lively home crowd. A controlled second half, built on patient half-court offense and a decisive run early in the fourth quarter, turned a tight derby into a comfortable double-digit win.

Match Overview

Both teams came out at a high tempo, trading baskets in the opening minutes before Legnano's defense settled. The Knights closed the first quarter with a five-point cushion and never trailed again, though Desio kept the margin within single digits for long stretches. The hosts' ability to answer every Aurora push — usually through a well-executed pick-and-roll or an offensive rebound — proved the difference across 40 minutes.

Quarter-by-quarter

• Q1: Legnano 20 – 15 Aurora Desio
• Q2: Legnano 19 – 18 Aurora Desio (39-33 at half-time)
• Q3: Legnano 18 – 17 Aurora Desio (57-50)
• Q4: Legnano 22 – 17 Aurora Desio (79-67 final)

Key Moments

The game's turning point arrived in the opening three minutes of the final period. Leading by just seven, Legnano strung together a 9-0 burst that pushed the lead to 66-50 and forced Aurora Desio into a timeout. The run featured a corner three, a fast-break layup after a steal at midcourt, and two converted free throws after an unsportsmanlike foul. Desio responded with a short spurt of their own to cut the gap to eleven, but never seriously threatened down the stretch.

Earlier, the second quarter had been the most competitive stretch of the night. Desio switched to a compact zone and briefly slowed Legnano's ball movement, trimming the deficit to three. The Knights answered with back-to-back inside baskets to restore order before the break.

Tactical Story

Legnano's coaching staff leaned on a deep rotation and a switch-heavy defense that disrupted Desio's perimeter rhythm. Aurora's guards found driving lanes hard to come by, and when they did penetrate, the Knights' help defense arrived early. On offense, Legnano attacked the paint first and kicked out second, finishing with a healthy balance between two-point and three-point scoring.

Desio's best spell came when they pushed the pace off defensive rebounds, an approach that produced several easy transition baskets. The problem was consistency: whenever the game slowed into half-court sets, the visitors struggled to generate clean looks against Legnano's size.

Standout Players

• Legnano's starting guard dictated tempo all evening, pairing double-digit scoring with a handful of assists and only a couple of turnovers.
• The Knights' center anchored the paint, finishing around the rim and controlling the defensive glass during the decisive fourth-quarter run.
• Desio's shooting guard was the visitors' most reliable option, keeping Aurora within touching distance through the middle two quarters.
• Bench contributions tilted the game: Legnano's reserves outscored their counterparts and provided the energy that sparked the closing surge.

Season Impact

The victory gives the Knights early momentum in the Serie B Basket standings and, just as importantly, a derby win that will boost confidence in the locker room. For Aurora Desio, the defeat is a reminder that road games against direct rivals demand cleaner execution in the fourth quarter. Both clubs will look to build on what worked here, with Legnano keen to turn home court into a genuine fortress and Desio focused on tightening late-game offense.
