Sloboda grinded out a 77-70 road victory over Hercegovac in the Serbia Basketball League, using a late fourth-quarter surge and clutch free-throw shooting to secure a valuable win. The game was close throughout, but Sloboda’s defensive discipline and timely shot-making made the difference in the final minutes.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets. Sloboda maintained a slim 39-34 halftime advantage thanks to better three-point shooting and a few transition baskets.

The third quarter saw Hercegovac fight back. They tied the game midway through the period and even took a one-point lead, but Sloboda responded with a 7-0 run to regain control. The fourth quarter remained tense until the final two minutes, when Sloboda executed on both ends to close it out.

Quarter-by-quarter breakdown

Key moments

The decisive sequence came with just under three minutes remaining. With Sloboda leading by two, their defense forced two consecutive turnovers, converting them into a layup and a corner three. That five-point swing pushed the lead to seven and forced Hercegovac to foul. Sloboda then knocked down six straight free throws to ice the game.

Standout performers

Sloboda’s backcourt was composed throughout, especially in the fourth quarter. Their point guard controlled the pace, found open shooters, and made intelligent decisions against pressure. The team’s wing defenders also deserve credit for limiting Hercegovac’s top scorers in the closing minutes. For Hercegovac, their interior players battled hard on the glass and kept them in the game, but the team’s perimeter shooting went cold at the worst possible time.

Tactical story

Sloboda’s defensive approach was built on forcing Hercegovac into long, contested jump shots. They packed the paint, helped early on drives, and recovered quickly to shooters. Offensively, Sloboda used ball screens effectively, attacking the rim when the defense overplayed the three-point line. Hercegovac, meanwhile, struggled to generate easy baskets in the half court and relied too heavily on isolation plays.

What it means for the season

This road win is a solid result for Sloboda in the Serbia Basketball League. It shows they can win ugly games and execute under pressure, traits that matter in a long season. For Hercegovac, the loss is a missed opportunity at home, but their competitive performance suggests they will remain a tough opponent. The 77-70 final score reflects how tight the game was, with Sloboda making the bigger plays in the final three minutes.
