Key moments

After Xidian tied the game at 64-64 early in the fourth quarter, Southwest University responded with an 8-0 run that swung the momentum back in its favor. The spurt was fueled by defensive pressure, a pair of fast-break baskets, and an offensive rebound that led to free throws. Xidian cut the lead to four points in the closing minute, but Southwest University made six of its final eight free-throw attempts to protect the win.

Tactical story

Southwest University’s offense flowed through its guards, who repeatedly used ball screens to create driving lanes and kick-out opportunities. The hosts also attacked the offensive glass in the second half, generating extra possessions that proved decisive. Defensively, Southwest University switched between man-to-man and a half-court trap, forcing Xidian into several late-clock shots.

Xidian University of Science and Technology was at its best when pushing the pace. The visitors used quick outlet passes and aggressive rim attacks to stay in the game, but their half-court offense struggled against Southwest University’s length. Xidian also left points at the free-throw line, a factor that loomed large in a six-point loss.

Standout performers

Southwest University’s backcourt controlled the game’s rhythm and delivered key baskets in the fourth quarter. The team’s interior players provided rebounding and defensive resistance, while the bench contributed valuable minutes during a physical second half. Xidian’s guards were the visitors’ most consistent threat, creating shots off the dribble and keeping the pressure on until the final whistle.

Season impact

The win gives Southwest University a valuable result against a resilient conference opponent and reinforces its ability to execute in close games. For Xidian University of Science and Technology, the loss is a frustrating one because the team fought back from an early deficit and stayed within striking distance. The visitors will need to improve their free-throw shooting and late-game execution as the season progresses.
