Key moments

The decisive sequence came midway through the fourth quarter. Geneve had reduced the lead to 78-75 and had possession to tie the game, but Fribourg forced a turnover and converted it into a fast-break layup. On the next possession, Fribourg hit a three-pointer from the wing to push the lead back to eight. Geneve continued to fight and made it a five-point game with under a minute remaining, but Fribourg’s free-throw shooting sealed the result.

Fribourg’s best stretch came late in the second quarter, when they closed the half on a 10-3 run. That burst turned a tight game into a seven-point halftime lead and gave the visitors control of the tempo.

Tactical story

Fribourg’s offense was built on ball movement and perimeter shooting. The visitors spaced the floor well, attacked closeouts, and repeatedly found open shooters on the weak side. Their guards controlled the pace and made smart decisions in pick-and-roll situations, while their bigs set solid screens and crashed the offensive glass. Geneve competed hard on the boards and scored efficiently inside, but Fribourg’s three-point shooting and transition defense proved to be the difference.

Geneve’s third-quarter run came from increased defensive pressure and a willingness to push the ball after misses. The hosts briefly disrupted Fribourg’s rhythm, but the visitors adjusted by slowing the game down and attacking the paint in the fourth quarter, forcing Geneve to collapse and opening up outside shots.

Standout performers and bench impact

Fribourg’s backcourt was excellent in key moments, combining for timely three-pointers and poised free-throw shooting. Their bench also gave the team a lift in the second quarter, helping to build the halftime cushion. For Geneve, the leading scorers kept the team in contention with aggressive drives and mid-range shooting, but the hosts struggled to contain Fribourg’s balanced attack in the final minutes.

What the result means

The victory is a significant one for Elfic Fribourg Women in the Swiss Basketball League Women title race, demonstrating their ability to win on the road against a quality opponent. Geneve Elite Basket Women will be disappointed to lose at home, but their second-half response showed character. Both teams will look to build on different aspects of this performance as the season progresses: Fribourg will focus on maintaining their offensive efficiency, while Geneve will aim to tighten their late-game defense.
