Kosice Wolves controlled their Slovenska Basketbalova Liga matchup from start to finish on Sunday, defeating Komarno 86-59 behind a strong defensive effort and a balanced scoring display. The home side led at every quarter break and never allowed Komarno to build any meaningful momentum.

Match overview

Kosice opened with a 24-14 first quarter, using active hands on defense and quick transition decisions to set the pace. The Wolves extended their lead to 43-27 by halftime and then put the game out of reach with a 22-16 third quarter. Komarno struggled to find clean looks against Kosice’s half-court defense, and the final period saw the hosts comfortably close out the 27-point win.

The quarter scores told the story of Kosice’s control: 24-14, 19-13, 22-16 and 21-16. The Wolves were never seriously threatened after the opening ten minutes.

Key moments

• Kosice used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to turn an early 8-6 lead into a commanding advantage.
• A defensive sequence midway through the second quarter — two steals and a blocked shot — sparked a fast-break burst that pushed the lead to 18.
• Komarno’s best chance to rally came early in the third quarter, but Kosice answered with a 9-2 run to snuff out the comeback.
• The Kosice bench maintained the intensity in the fourth quarter, keeping Komarno to 16 points in the final period.

Tactical story

Kosice’s interior defense was the backbone of the performance. The Wolves protected the rim, limited second-chance opportunities and forced Komarno into low-percentage perimeter shots. On offense, Kosice attacked the basket with purpose and shared the ball well, finishing with 21 assists. Their ability to score in transition after defensive stops made the lead feel even larger than the final margin.

Komarno’s offense never found a consistent rhythm. The visitors struggled against Kosice’s physicality inside and were unable to punish the Wolves from three-point range. When Komarno tried to speed up the game, Kosice’s defense forced turnovers and converted them into easy points at the other end.

Standout players

Matej Horvath led Kosice with 20 points and 5 assists, setting the tone with aggressive drives and timely shooting. Lukas Kral added 14 points and 12 rebounds, dominating the glass, while Martin Sokol chipped in 13 points off the bench. For Komarno, Peter Nagy scored 16 points and Juraj Kovac added 11, but the visitors lacked the offensive balance to match Kosice’s depth.

Season impact

The victory gives Kosice Wolves a strong home result and reinforces their defensive identity in the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga. It also provides valuable momentum as the league schedule tightens. Komarno will need to regroup quickly, particularly on the offensive end, where their half-court execution and perimeter shooting must improve. For Kosice, the challenge now is to carry this level of intensity into their next road fixture.
