Prievidza Power Past Kosice Wolves in Slovak League Blowout

HBK Prievidza made a resounding statement on the road in the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga, dismantling the Kosice Wolves 104–77. The visitors controlled the contest from the opening tip and never allowed Kosice to settle into a rhythm, turning a competitive first quarter into a one-sided affair by halftime. The 27-point margin reflects Prievidza’s superior execution on both ends, as they shot the ball efficiently from the perimeter and dominated the paint.

How the Game Unfolded

Kosice Wolves came out with energy and briefly traded baskets with Prievidza in the early minutes. The home side’s guards attacked the rim and drew contact, keeping the score close at 12–12 midway through the first quarter. But Prievidza responded with a decisive 15–2 run that spanned the end of the first and the start of the second period, flipping a tight game into a double-digit lead they would never relinquish.

By halftime, Prievidza had built a 55–38 advantage, fueled by crisp ball movement and a barrage of three-pointers. Kosice struggled to contain Prievidza’s pick-and-roll action, often leaving shooters open on the weak side. The third quarter offered no respite: Prievidza opened with a 10–0 spurt, pushing the lead past 20 and effectively putting the game out of reach. Kosice’s bench provided a brief spark in the fourth, but Prievidza’s starters returned to close the door.

Key Moments That Decided It

• Late first-quarter surge: Prievidza’s 15–2 run turned a tie game into a 27–14 cushion, forcing Kosice to play catch-up for the rest of the night.
• Third-quarter knockout: A 10–0 start to the second half pushed the lead to 24, extinguishing any hope of a Kosice comeback.
• Three-point barrage: Prievidza connected on 14 triples, many of them uncontested, as Kosice’s closeouts were a step slow all evening.

Standout Performances

Prievidza’s backcourt was sensational. Point guard Lukáš Krajčír dictated tempo with 22 points and 9 assists, repeatedly finding open shooters in transition. Shooting guard Martin Bílik added 20 points, including four three-pointers, while forward Tomáš Mrviš posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Off the bench, Jakub Potočár chipped in 12 points on perfect shooting.

For Kosice Wolves, the night was a struggle. Guard Peter Sedmák led the team with 18 points, but he received little support. Center Marek Jurík managed 12 points and 8 rebounds, but foul trouble limited him to 24 minutes. The Wolves shot just 39% from the field and turned the ball over 16 times, many of which led to easy Prievidza fast-break points.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

What the Result Means

The win lifts HBK Prievidza into the upper reaches of the Slovenska Basketbalova Liga standings, reinforcing their credentials as a team capable of challenging for a top-four finish. Their offensive efficiency (54% field goals, 47% from three) will be a warning to the rest of the league. For Kosice Wolves, the loss is a setback that exposes defensive vulnerabilities, particularly in transition and on the perimeter. They will need to regroup quickly, as the Slovak league schedule offers little time for reflection. This result sends a clear message: Prievidza are a force to be reckoned with, while Kosice must find answers fast.
