SAM Basket Massagno delivered one of the more convincing offensive displays of the early Swiss Basketball League season, defeating BBC Monthey 97-83 on October 24, 2026.

Massagno set the tone with a 25-point first quarter and never trailed after the opening minutes. The home side’s ball movement and perimeter shooting stretched Monthey’s defense throughout, allowing Massagno to build a double-digit lead that held up over the final two quarters.

Quarter-by-quarter

Key moments

Massagno started brightly and led 25-20 after the first quarter, with quick ball reversals creating open corner three-pointers. The home side then opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run, pushing the advantage to 34-20 and forcing Monthey into an early timeout. Monthey stabilised behind stronger work on the offensive glass, but Massagno still took a 49-38 lead into halftime.

The third quarter brought Monthey’s best stretch of the game. The visitors cut the deficit to eight points midway through the period, but Massagno answered immediately with an 11-3 run. That response restored a comfortable cushion and drained much of the momentum from Monthey’s comeback attempt.

Tactical story

Massagno’s offense was built on spacing and quick decisions. The home side shot 12-of-28 from beyond the arc and repeatedly attacked closeouts, creating lanes for drives and kick-out opportunities. Defensively, Massagno forced 16 turnovers and turned many of them into transition points, preventing Monthey from setting its half-court defense.

Monthey competed well on the boards but struggled to contain Massagno’s guards off the dribble. The visitors also left too many shooters open in the first half, and those missed rotations proved costly in a game played at a fast pace.

Standout performers

• Omar Williams (Massagno): 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, leading the attack with poise.
• Marco Barella (Massagno): 18 points on efficient shooting, including four three-pointers.
• Luca Sassi (Massagno): 12 points off the bench, providing a spark in the second quarter.
• Darius Johnson (Monthey): 22 points and 7 rebounds in a strong individual performance.
• Yanis Moret (Monthey): 15 points and 5 assists, helping keep the visitors within reach.

Season impact

The win moves SAM Basket Massagno up the Swiss Basketball League standings and reinforces their home-court strength. BBC Monthey will need to tighten their transition defense and reduce turnovers after a game in which Massagno’s pace proved difficult to contain. The result also gives Massagno an early confidence boost in the head-to-head battle between the two clubs.
