Tactical Story

Tver Polytechnic's game plan revolved around speed and outside shooting. They pushed the tempo at every opportunity and finished with 14 three-pointers, often catching Yugra's defense off guard. Defensively, they packed the paint to neutralize Yugra's big men, forcing the visitors to beat them from the perimeter. Yugra shot just 6-of-24 from beyond the arc.

Yugra Surgut dominated the rebounding battle 40-32 and scored 42 points in the paint, but their inability to hit outside shots and 15 turnovers proved costly. They also struggled to contain Tver's guards off the dribble, leading to open kick-out threes.

Standout Performers

• Tver Polytechnic shooting guard: 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists — hit six three-pointers and was the game's top scorer.
• Tver Polytechnic center: 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks — held his own against Yugra's bigger frontcourt.
• Yugra Surgut center: 18 points, 12 rebounds — dominant inside but received little help from the perimeter.

Cup Implications

The upset win sends Tver Polytechnic to the next round of the Russia Basketball Cup and gives them a major confidence boost. As a team composed largely of students and local players, they relied on teamwork and intensity to overcome a professional outfit. Yugra Surgut will be disappointed with the early exit, but they can now focus on their league campaign. For Tver, the cup run provides a valuable opportunity to test themselves against top-level competition and showcase their program.
