Tver Polytechnic upset SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban 100-89 in Russia Basketball Cup

Tver Polytechnic produced one of the standout offensive performances of the Russia Basketball Cup on September 27, 2026, defeating SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban 100-89 on the road. The visitors reached the century mark behind balanced scoring, sharp three-point shooting, and a decisive third-quarter surge that turned a close game into a double-digit win.

SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban came into the contest with energy and matched Tver early, but defensive breakdowns after halftime allowed the visitors to seize control. Tver Polytechnic’s backcourt repeatedly broke down the SShOR defense off the dribble, then kicked out to open shooters when help arrived.

Match overview

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Tver holding a narrow 24-20 lead. SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban answered in the second, using offensive rebounds and inside scoring to stay within four at halftime, 48-44. The game’s defining stretch came in the third quarter, when Tver Polytechnic outscored the hosts 30-18 to build a 78-62 advantage heading into the final period.

SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban made a late run in the fourth, cutting the deficit to nine with under four minutes remaining, but Tver responded with back-to-back three-pointers to seal the result. The win sends Tver Polytechnic into the next round with confidence, while SShOR will rue a costly third-quarter lull.

Tactical story: perimeter shooting and pace

Tver Polytechnic shot 14-of-30 from beyond the arc and consistently pushed the pace after defensive rebounds. Their guards attacked early in the shot clock, forcing SShOR’s big men to defend in space. When the hosts collapsed the paint, Tver found open corner shooters. SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban shot just 8-of-26 from three and struggled to match that efficiency.

On defense, Tver switched between man-to-man and a compact zone, disrupting SShOR’s rhythm. The hosts still found success inside, but they could not generate enough stops during the decisive third quarter.

Standout performers

Tver Polytechnic’s shooting guard led all scorers with 28 points, adding 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Their forward posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while the point guard chipped in 15 points and 8 assists. For SShOR-Lokomotiv-Kuban, the center finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the small forward added 17 points, but the supporting cast combined for just 29 points on inefficient shooting.
