CB Queluz secured a hard-fought 65-59 road victory over Sport Lisboa Benfica B on October 4, 2026, in Portugal Proliga action. In a game defined by defense, physical rebounding, and low-scoring half-court possessions, Queluz made the bigger plays down the stretch to leave Lisbon with a six-point win. The result adds an important road scalp to their season and hands Benfica B a frustrating home defeat in a game that was within reach until the final minutes.

Match Overview

The opening quarter set the tone for a gritty, defensive contest. Both teams struggled to find early offensive rhythm, with missed shots and turnovers keeping the score low. Benfica B used their athleticism to attack the offensive glass, while Queluz relied on patient ball movement and mid-range shooting to stay level. Neither side managed to build a significant lead in the first ten minutes.

The second quarter remained tight. Queluz began to find some success by attacking the paint and drawing fouls, but Benfica B answered with transition baskets and second-chance points. The game was physical, with both teams competing hard on the boards and limiting easy looks. At halftime, Queluz held a narrow advantage, but the margin was never comfortable.

The third quarter saw Benfica B briefly take control. Their defense forced Queluz into several tough possessions, and their young guards pushed the pace to create open shots. A mid-quarter run gave the home side a small lead, energizing the crowd and putting Queluz on the back foot. However, Queluz responded with composure, slowing the tempo and executing in the half court to stay within striking distance.

In the fourth quarter, Queluz’s experience showed. They tightened their defense, forced Benfica B into contested jumpers, and converted key offensive possessions. A late 8-0 run swung the game in their favor, and they sealed the win with clutch free throws in the final minute. The 65-59 final score reflected a game where every possession mattered.

Key Moments

• Fourth-quarter 8-0 run: Queluz’s decisive surge turned a tight game into a late lead they would not relinquish.
• Defensive stops: Multiple late stops prevented Benfica B from answering after Queluz took control.
• Clutch shooting: Queluz knocked down important perimeter shots and free throws in the closing minutes.
• Rebounding battle: Queluz’s ability to limit Benfica B’s second-chance opportunities in the fourth quarter was crucial.

Tactical Story

This was a classic Portugal Proliga chess match. Both teams prioritized defense, and neither allowed the other to get comfortable in transition. Benfica B tried to use their speed and youth to push the pace, but Queluz did an excellent job of getting back and setting their half-court defense. Queluz also switched effectively on screens, disrupting Benfica B’s pick-and-roll actions.

Offensively, Queluz leaned on their half-court execution. They moved the ball from side to side, attacked closeouts, and made timely cuts to the basket. When Benfica B collapsed the defense, Queluz found open shooters on the perimeter. Benfica B, meanwhile, relied heavily on individual drives and offensive rebounds. That approach worked in stretches, but it became less effective as the game wore on and Queluz tightened its interior defense.

The free-throw line also played a role. Queluz’s ability to convert in the fourth quarter contrasted with Benfica B’s missed opportunities earlier in the game. In a low-scoring matchup, those small margins made the difference.

Standout Players

Queluz’s backcourt delivered a steady performance, with their lead guard controlling the tempo and making smart decisions in the clutch. A wing player provided important scoring from the perimeter, while the frontcourt battled hard on the boards and protected the rim. The bench also contributed key defensive minutes, helping Queluz maintain intensity when starters needed rest.

For Sport Lisboa Benfica B, the top performers showed why the development side remains a dangerous opponent. Their guards attacked the basket aggressively, and their forwards competed on the glass. However, costly turnovers and cold stretches in the fourth quarter prevented them from closing out the game. The young squad will take valuable lessons from a contest that required patience and execution under pressure.
