Maia Basket Clube held off Lusitania Angra Patrimonio 82-77 in Portugal Proliga on 25 October 2026, winning a high-tempo contest that came down to execution in the final minutes. The final score reflected the game’s attacking quality, but Maia’s ability to make the key plays on both ends in the fourth quarter proved decisive.

Match overview

Both teams came out playing with pace. Maia used their home support to establish an early lead, while Lusitania responded with sharp perimeter shooting and aggressive drives to the basket. The first half was closely fought, with neither defense able to fully contain the other’s offensive rhythm.

• Quarter scores: Maia 20-18, 22-19, 18-20, 22-20
• Final score: Maia Basket Clube 82, Lusitania Angra Patrimonio 77
• Decisive phase: Maia’s late fourth-quarter run and clutch free-throw shooting

Maia led by five at halftime and managed to keep a narrow advantage through the third quarter. Lusitania stayed within striking distance thanks to timely three-pointers, but Maia’s response each time the visitors threatened was a sign of their composure.

Key moments

The fourth quarter delivered the game’s most important sequence. With Lusitania pressing for the lead, Maia produced a decisive 8-0 run built on a defensive stop, a fast-break basket and a pair of free throws. That burst gave the hosts enough cushion to withstand Lusitania’s final push.

Lusitania had chances to close the gap, but Maia’s defense tightened when it mattered. A contested three-point attempt and a turnover in the final minute ended the visitors’ hopes, and Maia sealed the win from the free-throw line.

Tactical story

This was a game of contrasting styles within the same fast pace. Maia looked to attack the paint and kick out to open shooters, while Lusitania relied on ball movement and quick perimeter releases. Both approaches worked for long stretches, which is why the score remained close until the final minutes.

Maia’s rebounding advantage was important. They generated extra possessions and limited Lusitania’s second-chance opportunities, especially in the fourth quarter. The hosts also handled pressure well, committing fewer turnovers in the closing stages than their opponents.

Standout performers

Maia’s backcourt controlled the tempo and made several key decisions late in the game. Their leading scorer was effective from both inside and beyond the arc, while the team’s frontcourt provided crucial rebounding and defensive resistance. Lusitania’s guards kept the visitors in the game with timely shooting, but they could not find the same level of execution in the final two minutes.

The free-throw line proved decisive. Maia’s composure from the stripe in the fourth quarter protected their lead, while Lusitania were left to rue a few missed opportunities at the other end.

Season impact

For Maia Basket Clube, this is a valuable home win in Portugal Proliga. Close victories build belief, and the manner in which they responded to Lusitania’s runs will encourage the coaching staff. The result also strengthens their standing and gives them momentum heading into the next round.

Lusitania will take positives from their offensive performance but will be frustrated by the defensive lapses in the fourth quarter. Better late-game rebounding and shot selection could have changed the outcome, and those areas will likely be the focus in training.
