WWU Baskets Münster 71, SC Rist Wedel 49: ProB Match Report

WWU Baskets Münster produced a commanding home performance on October 25, 2026, defeating SC Rist Wedel 71-49 in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB. The 22-point victory was built on aggressive defense, patient half-court execution and a decisive second-quarter run that turned an early contest into a controlled Münster win. Keeping Wedel under 50 points underlined just how much authority the hosts had over the game.

Match Overview

Münster set the tone with an 18-12 first quarter and then tightened its grip before halftime. A 20-11 second period sent the home side into the break with a 38-23 lead, and Wedel never found a consistent way back into the contest. Münster added a 17-14 third quarter and closed with a 16-12 fourth to complete a balanced scoring performance across all four periods.

The hosts did not rely on one overwhelming individual burst. Instead, they shared the ball, attacked gaps in Wedel’s defense and kept the visitors in long, difficult possessions. The final scoreline reflected that control: Münster scored steadily in every quarter, while Wedel’s offensive output never rose above 14 points in any period.

How Münster Controlled the Game

The decisive stretch came in the second quarter. Leading 18-12 after the opening ten minutes, Münster opened the period with a 12-2 surge that pushed the advantage into double digits. The run was powered by defensive pressure on the perimeter, quick help at the rim and transition opportunities created from Wedel’s turnovers. Once the lead reached 20 points, the game’s rhythm belonged almost entirely to the home side.

Wedel tried to respond through interior scoring and mid-range jumpers, but Münster’s rotations were sharp and the help defense arrived early. The visitors were forced into contested shots and second-choice options, while Münster’s guards controlled the tempo at the other end. The hosts’ ability to defend without fouling also limited Wedel’s chances to score cheaply at the free-throw line.

Tactical Story

Münster’s defensive scheme was the foundation of the result. The home side switched effectively on the perimeter, crowded driving lanes and made Wedel work deep into the shot clock. When Wedel attempted to attack the paint, Münster’s big men provided vertical resistance and secured the defensive glass, preventing second-chance points that could have kept the visitors close.

On offense, Münster looked composed rather than rushed. The ball moved from side to side, pick-and-roll actions created open catch-and-shoot chances, and the bench maintained the same intensity when substitutions arrived. That balance made the hosts difficult to scout in the moment: Wedel could not collapse on one scorer without leaving another Münster player open.

Standout Areas

• Defensive discipline: Münster held Wedel to 49 points and never allowed a quarter above 14.
• Balanced scoring: contributions arrived from the backcourt, wings and interior rotation.
• Bench energy: the second unit protected the lead and kept the defensive pressure high.
• Second-quarter separation: the 12-2 run effectively decided the direction of the game.

Season Impact in ProB

This is the kind of result that strengthens a ProB campaign. Münster will take confidence from the defensive performance and the calmness shown with a lead, while SC Rist Wedel will need to find more rhythm on offense after a difficult shooting night. In a league where home form and point differential can shape the standings, a 22-point win gives Münster useful momentum and a clear template for future games.
