Kirchheim Secure 94-85 Road Win at Weissenhorn Youngstars

Kirchheim delivered a composed road performance in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA on October 3, 2026, defeating Weissenhorn Youngstars 94-85. The visitors broke open a tight contest with a strong third quarter and then protected their lead at the free-throw line down the stretch. The final score gave Kirchheim an important early-season victory, while Weissenhorn were left to rue a costly scoring drought in the second half.

The game was competitive through the opening 20 minutes, but Kirchheim’s ability to score in transition and punish mistakes proved decisive. Weissenhorn stayed within reach behind energetic home-crowd support, yet Kirchheim’s balanced attack and timely three-point shooting kept the hosts from completing a comeback.

Match Overview

Kirchheim led by a narrow margin for much of the first half before pulling away after the break. The quarter-by-quarter pattern showed a close game tilting in the visitors’ favor during the third period.

• First quarter: Weissenhorn 22, Kirchheim 25
• Second quarter: Weissenhorn 24, Kirchheim 23
• Third quarter: Weissenhorn 18, Kirchheim 27
• Fourth quarter: Weissenhorn 21, Kirchheim 19
• Final score: Weissenhorn Youngstars 85, Kirchheim 94

Kirchheim’s third-quarter advantage was the defining stretch of the night. After leading 48-46 at halftime, the visitors outscored Weissenhorn 27-18 in the third, creating a cushion that proved enough to absorb a late home push.

Key Moments

The game’s turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With Weissenhorn trailing by just three points, Kirchheim engineered a 12-2 run built on defensive stops, quick outlet passes, and open corner threes. That burst pushed the lead into double digits and forced the Youngstars into a timeout.

Weissenhorn responded with a spirited fourth-quarter effort, cutting the deficit to six points with under four minutes remaining. However, Kirchheim answered with a patient possession that ended in a foul and two made free throws, then forced a contested miss on the next defensive trip. The visitors closed the game with efficient foul shooting to seal the 94-85 win.

Tactical Story

Kirchheim’s defensive game plan focused on crowding Weissenhorn’s primary ball handlers and forcing them into late-clock decisions. The Youngstars found some success inside early, but Kirchheim adjusted by sending help from the weak side and contesting drives at the rim. Offensively, Kirchheim moved the ball well, generating open looks from beyond the arc and attacking closeouts when Weissenhorn scrambled to recover.

Weissenhorn’s best stretches came when they played through the post and crashed the offensive glass. That approach kept them close in the first half, but turnovers and missed second-chance opportunities in the third quarter allowed Kirchheim to seize control. The visitors also won the transition battle, scoring several easy baskets after long rebounds.

Standout Players

Kirchheim’s backcourt led the way, with their starting guard scoring a game-high 24 points and adding seven assists. He repeatedly broke down the defense in the pick-and-roll and made smart decisions when Weissenhorn collapsed into the paint. Kirchheim’s power forward contributed 18 points and nine rebounds, controlling the defensive glass and finishing through contact.

For Weissenhorn, the small forward was the most consistent offensive threat, finishing with 21 points and six rebounds. The Youngstars’ center added 14 points and 10 rebounds, but foul trouble limited his impact in the decisive third quarter. Weissenhorn’s bench provided energy, yet the team struggled to find a reliable secondary scorer after halftime.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Kirchheim’s position in the early 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA standings and gives them confidence on the road. Their balanced scoring and defensive discipline suggest they can compete with the league’s stronger sides if they maintain that level. For Weissenhorn Youngstars, the loss is a learning moment, especially given how competitive they were for long stretches. The Youngstars will need to limit turnovers and improve their late-game execution as the ProA season progresses.
