Eisbären Bremerhaven edged out RheinStars Köln 85-83 in a thrilling 2.Basketball Bundesliga ProA contest that came down to the final possession. In a game featuring 12 lead changes, the visitors found the decisive basket in the closing seconds to silence a raucous home crowd in Cologne.

Match Overview

Neither side managed to build a comfortable cushion all evening. Köln started brightly in front of their home supporters, but Bremerhaven's half-court execution and clutch perimeter shooting kept them within touching distance throughout. The fourth quarter turned into a genuine shootout, with both teams trading buckets before the visitors made the last meaningful play.

Key Moments

Köln grabbed a slender lead entering the final two minutes after a three-point play from their leading scorer, but Bremerhaven responded immediately with a corner triple to retake the advantage. With the clock winding down and the score tied, the Eisbären ran a well-designed pick-and-roll that freed their guard for a pull-up jumper — the eventual game-winner.

Köln had one last look from beyond the arc at the buzzer, but the attempt rimmed out, leaving the home side agonisingly short.

Tactical Story

• Late-game execution: Bremerhaven's composure in the final two minutes was the difference, converting on their last three offensive possessions.
• Rebounding: Köln held a slight edge on the boards, but Bremerhaven's offensive rebounding created crucial second-chance points.
• Foul trouble: Both teams rotated their big men carefully, and the resulting mismatches were exploited on the perimeter.
• Bench scoring: The Eisbären reserves gave them a lift in the second quarter while their starters rested.

Standout Performers

Bremerhaven's backcourt controlled the closing stages, and their leading scorer finished with a game-high total while shooting efficiently from the field. The frontcourt chipped in with physical play inside and important defensive stops. For the RheinStars, the performance was a strong one despite the result — their guards pushed the tempo effectively, and the home crowd had plenty to cheer about until the final buzzer.

Standings Impact

It is a valuable road win for Bremerhaven in the ProA table, and exactly the kind of narrow victory that separates playoff teams from the pack. Köln, meanwhile, will be frustrated to lose such a tight contest on home court; a two-point margin in a game where they led late will feel like points dropped. The RheinStars will look to convert their strong overall play into results when they return to action away from home.
