Paderborn Baskets powered to a 90-71 home win over RheinStars Köln in the 2.Basketball Bundesliga ProA on October 3, 2026, delivering a complete performance on both ends of the floor and never trailing after the opening minutes.

The Baskets set the tone with a 24-18 first quarter, then stretched the lead to 46-34 by halftime. A 25-19 third quarter pushed the advantage to 71-53, and Paderborn closed out the game comfortably in the fourth to secure a 19-point victory.

Match overview

Paderborn played with pace and purpose from the opening tip. The home side moved the ball sharply, attacked the rim, and consistently found open shooters against a RheinStars defense that struggled to rotate. Offensively, Köln had moments of promise, but the visitors could not match Paderborn’s efficiency or physicality for long stretches.

The game was decided in the middle quarters. After a competitive opening period, Paderborn used a 10-0 run early in the second to break the game open. Köln never recovered, and the Baskets kept their foot on the pedal after halftime.

• First quarter: Paderborn 24, Köln 18
• Second quarter: Paderborn 22, Köln 16
• Third quarter: Paderborn 25, Köln 19

Key moments

The decisive stretch came in the second quarter. Leading 26-22, Paderborn rattled off ten unanswered points, forcing RheinStars into hurried shots and turnovers. The run featured a transition dunk, a corner three, and two free throws, and it turned a close game into a 36-22 advantage. Köln briefly stopped the bleeding, but Paderborn answered before halftime to take a 12-point lead into the locker room.

Any hope of a RheinStars comeback was extinguished early in the third. Paderborn opened the second half with a 9-2 run, pushing the margin to 19. From there, the Baskets managed the game intelligently, never allowing Köln to cut the deficit below 15 points.

Standout players

Paderborn’s balance was the story. The Baskets had several contributors in double figures and received strong production from their bench, which maintained the defensive intensity when the starters rested. The backcourt controlled the tempo, while the frontcourt dominated the glass and protected the rim.

For RheinStars Köln, the loss was a difficult one, but there were positive signs in the team’s half-court offense. Köln’s guards created some open looks, and the visitors competed on the boards for stretches. However, they were hurt by cold shooting from three-point range and too many live-ball turnovers that Paderborn converted into easy points.

Box score snapshot

• Paderborn: 90 points, 49% field goals, 12/29 three-pointers, 42 rebounds, 24 assists

What the result means

The victory boosts Paderborn Baskets in the 2.Basketball Bundesliga ProA standings and gives them momentum for the next stretch of the season. It was also a statement about their depth and defensive discipline. RheinStars Köln, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly, particularly on the defensive end and at the three-point line. The head-to-head result will be one the Baskets can carry forward if the teams meet again later in the campaign.
