Key moments

The game turned in the second quarter. Leading 24-21, Crailsheim put together an 11-2 run that pushed the advantage to 35-23. The burst featured two three-pointers, a fast-break layup, and a defensive stop that forced Bremerhaven into a timeout. Bremerhaven responded with a short run before halftime, but Crailsheim’s 41-31 lead gave them a cushion they never fully relinquished.

In the fourth quarter, Bremerhaven cut the deficit to nine with just over four minutes remaining, but Crailsheim answered with a patient possession that ended in an open corner three. That shot sparked a 7-2 mini-run and effectively sealed the result.

Tactical story

Crailsheim’s offense was built on ball movement and quick decisions. The Merlins repeatedly attacked closeouts, swung the ball to the weak side, and generated clean looks from beyond the arc. Their half-court defense was equally impressive, forcing Bremerhaven into contested mid-range shots and limiting second-chance opportunities. Bremerhaven’s guards tried to push the tempo, but Crailsheim’s transition defense was well organized.

The hosts also won the turnover battle, turning several Bremerhaven mistakes into quick points. That efficiency gap, combined with Crailsheim’s superior three-point shooting, proved too much for the visitors to overcome.

Standout performers

Crailsheim’s perimeter players set the tone with smart shot selection and active hands on defense. The frontcourt provided solid screening and rebounding, helping the Merlins control the paint without forcing offense through a single player. Bremerhaven’s leading scorer worked hard to keep his team in contention, but the supporting cast struggled against Crailsheim’s pressure. The Merlins’ bench also contributed key minutes, maintaining the intensity on both ends.

Standings impact

The home win strengthens HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim’s position in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA and adds another valuable result to their season record. For Eisbaren Bremerhaven, the loss highlights the need for more consistent half-court execution, especially when the pace slows. Crailsheim’s ability to protect home court will be a key factor in their push for a high playoff seed.
