Key moments

CLIP’s 9-0 run midway through the first quarter set the tone for the afternoon. Their full-court pressure forced Gafanha into several rushed passes, and CLIP converted those mistakes into easy transition baskets. Gafanha called timeout to regroup, but the visitors maintained their defensive intensity.

The third quarter proved decisive. CLIP opened the second half with an 11-3 run, pushing the lead beyond 20 points. Gafanha tried to respond with a zone defense, but CLIP’s ball movement and outside shooting quickly solved it. From there, CLIP managed the game comfortably.

Tactical story

Defense was the foundation of CLIP’s win. They contested every catch, rotated quickly on the help side, and limited Gafanha’s second-chance opportunities with strong defensive rebounding. Gafanha shot poorly from the perimeter and struggled to establish an interior presence against CLIP’s size.

Offensively, CLIP shared the ball well and attacked the paint when Gafanha overextended on the perimeter. Their ability to score in both the half court and transition made them difficult to guard.

Standout players

CLIP forward Marta Oliveira led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds, dominating the interior. Guard Ines Rocha added 14 points and seven assists, while shooting guard Carolina Pires contributed 12 points on efficient shooting. For GD Gafanha Women, Sofia Almeida finished with 13 points, but she was the only Gafanha player to reach double figures.

Season impact

The win gives CLIP Women another important road result and strengthens their standing in the Portugal Women’s Div 1 table. For GD Gafanha Women, the loss highlights the need to improve ball security and offensive execution against pressure defenses. They will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
