Maia Basket Women earned an 82-76 road victory over Coimbroes B Women in Portugal Women’s Div 1, using a strong second-half push and clutch perimeter shooting to secure the win. The six-point margin reflected a hard-fought contest, but Maia’s ability to answer Coimbroes’ runs proved decisive down the stretch.

Match overview

Coimbroes B Women started with energy and found success attacking the basket, but Maia Basket Women stayed within striking distance before taking control after halftime. The visitors’ 82 points represented a solid offensive outing on the road, while Coimbroes’ 76-point effort kept the game competitive until the final minutes. Maia’s composure in possession and their willingness to move the ball under pressure made the difference in a tightly contested league fixture.

Key moments

• Coimbroes used an early run to energize the home crowd, but Maia responded with timely three-point shooting to stay close.
• The third quarter proved pivotal, as Maia increased defensive pressure and converted turnovers into quick points.
• Coimbroes cut the deficit late, but Maia knocked down key free throws and came up with a crucial stop to seal the result.

Tactical story

Maia’s offense was at its best when the guards penetrated and kicked the ball to open shooters. That inside-out approach stretched Coimbroes’ defense and created second-chance opportunities when the hosts were forced to rotate. Coimbroes relied more heavily on interior scoring and offensive rebounding, which kept them in the game but also made their offense vulnerable when Maia tightened its defense. The visitors’ ability to limit live-ball turnovers in the fourth quarter was a major factor in closing out the win.

Standout performers

Maia’s backcourt delivered important shot-making and decision-making, particularly in the second half when the game demanded poise. The visiting forwards also contributed on the glass, helping Maia survive Coimbroes’ physical presence inside. Coimbroes’ post players had strong moments around the rim, but the team needed more consistent outside shooting to stretch Maia’s defense and open up the paint.

Standings impact

The away win gives Maia Basket Women an important result in the Portugal Women’s Div 1 standings, where road victories can provide a significant boost during a long season. Coimbroes B Women will be disappointed to lose at home after staying competitive for much of the night, but the performance showed enough fighting spirit to suggest they can bounce back. Both sides now move on with clear lessons: Maia will look to sustain their late-game execution, while Coimbroes focus on turning strong stretches into complete four-quarter performances.
