Vasco da Gama U23 67-84 Guifoes — Guifoes produced one of the more controlled road performances of the Portugal Nacional 1A round on October 25, 2026, pulling away from Vasco da Gama U23 in the second half for a 84-67 victory at 19:45. The visitors combined patient half-court offense with a decisive rebounding edge, turning a competitive first quarter into a comfortable win by the final buzzer.

Match overview

Vasco da Gama U23 opened with energy and pushed the pace early, but Guifoes settled quickly and led 22-16 after the first quarter. The second period was tighter, with Vasco’s young guards finding some rhythm in transition, yet Guifoes still managed a 41-34 halftime advantage. The decisive stretch came in the third quarter, when Guifoes opened the floor with ball movement and converted several second-chance opportunities to build a double-digit cushion.

Quarter scoring told the story of the night: Vasco da Gama U23 16-22, 18-19, 15-23, 18-20. Guifoes never allowed the home side to string together a sustained run, and the visitors’ composure in the closing ten minutes sealed the result.

Key moments

• First-quarter response: After Vasco da Gama U23 briefly led, Guifoes closed the period on a 10-2 run to take control.
• Third-quarter separation: Guifoes outscored the home side 23-15 in the third, effectively breaking the game open.
• Fourth-quarter discipline: The visitors protected the ball and made free throws down the stretch to keep Vasco at arm’s length.

Tactical story

Guifoes’ half-court defense was the foundation of the win. The visitors crowded the paint, forced Vasco da Gama U23 into contested mid-range attempts, and limited easy transition baskets after made shots. On offense, Guifoes used high screens to create driving lanes and consistently found the open corner shooter when the defense collapsed. Vasco’s younger lineup showed flashes of pace and athleticism, but the team struggled to match Guifoes’ physicality on the glass and committed too many live-ball turnovers in the third quarter.

Standout players

Guifoes’ backcourt controlled the tempo, with André Costa directing traffic and Miguel Pinto providing timely scoring from the perimeter. Inside, João Rocha was a steady presence on the boards and finished around the rim. For Vasco da Gama U23, Tiago Fonseca was the most consistent offensive threat, while Diogo Matos brought energy on both ends. The difference was Guifoes’ collective experience in the decisive moments.

Standings and season impact

The road win strengthens Guifoes’ position in the Portugal Nacional 1A standings and gives the club valuable momentum in a competitive early-season stretch. For Vasco da Gama U23, the loss is a learning opportunity: the young squad competed for long stretches but needs more consistency on the defensive glass and better shot selection when the pace slows. The head-to-head result will also matter if the teams meet again later in the campaign.

Guifoes will look to build on the 84-67 win, while Vasco da Gama U23 will focus on tightening its half-court execution before the next fixture.
