Clube 5Basket 81-66 CB Viana/Nortaluga: Home Side Take Control in Portugal Nacional 1A

Clube 5Basket produced one of their most assured performances of the Portugal Nacional 1A season on Saturday night, beating CB Viana/Nortaluga 81-66 in a game they controlled from the second quarter onwards. A fifteen-point winning margin at home underlined the value of a balanced scoring attack and a defensive display that never allowed the visitors to settle into a rhythm.

The result strengthens Clube 5Basket's position in the standings and hands CB Viana/Nortaluga another difficult evening on the road, where they have struggled to convert competitive first-half spells into winning basketball.

Match Overview

The opening ten minutes were tight and physical, with both teams trading baskets in the half-court. Clube 5Basket looked to establish an early inside presence, while Viana/Nortaluga responded with quick ball movement and perimeter shooting that kept the deficit at a single possession for much of the first quarter. The hosts led by a slender margin at the first break, but the game still felt wide open.

That changed in the second period. Clube 5Basket raised their defensive intensity, closed out on shooters more aggressively and began forcing Viana/Nortaluga into contested late-clock attempts. Offensively, the home side paired patient ball movement with decisive drives to the rim, stringing together the kind of run that has become their signature on their own floor this season.

Key Moments

• Second-quarter surge: Clube 5Basket's extended scoring run midway through the second period turned a narrow lead into a double-digit cushion, forcing the visitors into a timeout.
• Third-quarter response: Viana/Nortaluga briefly cut into the deficit after the interval with back-to-back three-pointers, but the hosts answered immediately at the other end with an and-one play that restored their rhythm.
• Fourth-quarter lock-down: Clube 5Basket conceded very little in the closing minutes, holding the visitors to a low-scoring final stretch that removed any realistic hope of a comeback.

Standout Performers

Clube 5Basket's backcourt set the tone on both ends, controlling the tempo and finding the open man whenever Viana/Nortaluga's defence collapsed. The frontcourt pair did the heavy work on the glass, generating second-chance points and limiting the visitors to a single shot on the majority of their possessions. That combination of rebounding control and efficient shot selection proved to be the difference over forty minutes.

For CB Viana/Nortaluga, the bright spots came from their perimeter shooting in the first half and from the energy of their bench, but the team lacked the inside scoring to answer when the hosts tightened up. Too many empty possessions in the third quarter proved costly.

Season Impact

For Clube 5Basket, the win is a valuable home result in a competition where protecting your own court is essential to climbing the table. An 81-point offensive night combined with a 66-point defensive effort highlights the balance the coaching staff have been chasing, and it gives the squad real momentum heading into their next fixtures.

CB Viana/Nortaluga leave with the defeat but will take encouragement from spells in which their ball movement troubled a strong home defence. Closing out quarters more cleanly and finding a more reliable inside option will be the focus as they look to respond in their next Nacional 1A outing.
