Ovarense Aerosoles delivered one of the most convincing road performances of the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol round, defeating Vitoria SC 87-71. The visitors controlled the second half, answered every Vitoria run, and pulled away late with efficient shooting and disciplined defense.

Match overview

Vitoria SC started with energy at home and briefly matched Ovarense’s pace. But Ovarense’s half-court execution was sharper, especially in the second quarter, when they began to exploit mismatches and get into the paint at will. A 23-18 opening period gave the visitors an early edge, and they never surrendered the lead after the midway point of the second quarter.

By halftime, Ovarense led 45-35. The third quarter is where the game truly tilted. Vitoria cut the deficit to single digits on a couple of occasions, but Ovarense responded with timely three-pointers and second-chance points, pushing the margin back to double figures before the final period.

Quarter-by-quarter breakdown

Key moments

The decisive stretch came late in the third quarter. With Vitoria threatening to make it a five-point game, Ovarense forced three straight empty possessions and converted them into a 10-2 run. That burst restored a comfortable cushion and forced Vitoria to chase the game in the fourth. Ovarense then closed the door at the free-throw line and with a pair of transition baskets in the final three minutes.

Standout performers

Ovarense’s guard play was the difference. Their primary ball-handlers controlled tempo, broke down Vitoria’s first line of defense, and consistently found shooters in rhythm. The frontcourt also delivered a strong rebounding performance, limiting Vitoria’s second-chance opportunities while generating extra possessions on the offensive glass.

For Vitoria SC, there were positive flashes. Their wings attacked the rim aggressively, and a few well-executed set plays produced open looks from beyond the arc. But the team struggled to string together stops, and once Ovarense’s lead grew to double digits, the home side’s offense became too perimeter-oriented.

Tactical story

Ovarense mixed man-to-man and zone looks effectively. The zone disrupted Vitoria’s rhythm in the half court, while the man defense allowed Ovarense to pressure the ball and jump passing lanes. Offensively, Ovarense played inside-out, using dribble penetration to collapse the defense before kicking the ball to open shooters. Their ball movement was patient, and they rarely settled for contested mid-range attempts.

What it means for the season

This is a significant road win in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol. Ovarense Aerosoles reinforced their credentials as a team capable of competing near the top of the table, while Vitoria SC will need to improve their defensive consistency and rebounding if they are to turn home games into wins. The final score of 87-71 flatters Ovarense slightly, but it accurately reflects their control over the final 15 minutes.

Final score: Vitoria SC 71, Ovarense Aerosoles 87.
