Lisboa e Benfica delivered a statement performance in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol, overwhelming UD Oliveirense 92-67 on 18 October 2026. A blistering start and sustained defensive pressure allowed Benfica to control the game from the opening minutes.

Match overview

Benfica set the tone immediately, racing into a 12-0 lead and forcing Oliveirense into early turnovers. By the end of the first quarter, the hosts led 28-16. The second period was more balanced, but Benfica still extended their advantage to 50-34 at halftime. Any hopes of an Oliveirense comeback were extinguished in the third quarter, as Benfica outscored their opponents 24-15 to take a 74-49 lead into the final period.

Key moments

The opening five minutes effectively decided the contest. Benfica’s full-court pressure disrupted Oliveirense’s rhythm, leading to easy transition baskets. A second decisive run came late in the third quarter, when Benfica scored 11 unanswered points to turn a 17-point lead into a 28-point cushion. Oliveirense never recovered, and Benfica were able to rotate their bench comfortably in the fourth quarter.

Tactical story

Benfica’s defensive intensity was the standout feature. They forced 21 turnovers and converted those mistakes into 27 points. Offensively, the hosts moved the ball beautifully, registering 24 assists on 34 made field goals. Their three-point shooting was also efficient, particularly in transition. Oliveirense struggled to handle Benfica’s pace and were often late in rotations, leaving open shooters on the perimeter.

Standout performers

Benfica’s point guard dictated the tempo with 20 points and seven assists, while their center controlled the paint with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The bench contributed 31 points, underlining the depth at Benfica’s disposal. For UD Oliveirense, the center battled hard for 15 points and 10 rebounds, but the backcourt struggled against Benfica’s pressure, combining for nine turnovers.

Season impact

This result sends a clear message about Benfica’s title credentials in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol. Their points difference and head-to-head advantage could matter later in the standings race. For Oliveirense, the defeat offers a clear learning opportunity: they must handle pressure better and find secondary scoring options. Benfica will look to build on the performance, while Oliveirense will seek an immediate response in their next fixture.
