Sparta Ziebice (W) secured a comfortable 72-53 road victory over Leszno Pompax Women in Poland 1 Liga Women action, controlling the game from the opening quarter and never allowing the hosts to build momentum. A disciplined defensive performance and balanced scoring effort made the difference on the night.

Visitors take charge early

Sparta Ziebice opened the game with a 10-2 run and never looked back. Their zone defense confused Leszno's half-court sets, forcing rushed shots and turnovers that the visitors converted into transition points. By the end of the first quarter the lead was 19-12.

The second period followed a similar pattern. Sparta kept the tempo slow on offense, working the ball patiently until an open look appeared, while their defensive rotations remained sharp. A late three-pointer before the halftime buzzer gave them a 37-26 cushion at the break.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

• First quarter: Leszno Pompax Women 12 – 19 Sparta Ziebice (W)
• Second quarter: Leszno Pompax Women 14 – 18 Sparta Ziebice (W)
• Third quarter: Leszno Pompax Women 15 – 16 Sparta Ziebice (W)

Key moments

Leszno's only real opportunity to change the game came early in the third quarter, when a pair of quick baskets trimmed the margin to nine points. Sparta Ziebice answered with a clinical 8-0 run over the next three minutes, capped by an and-one conversion, and the deficit stayed in double figures for the remainder of the contest.

The fourth quarter was managed superbly by the visitors. They slowed the game down, drew fouls and knocked down their free throws, ensuring there would be no late drama.

Tactical story

Sparta Ziebice's victory was built on defense. Their zone schemes limited Leszno's penetration, contested shots on the perimeter and controlled the defensive glass, denying the hosts the second-chance points that often fuel home runs. Offensively, they shared the ball well, with four players finishing in double figures.

Leszno Pompax struggled with turnovers throughout. When they did break the defense, they often rushed the finish or lost the ball on the extra pass. Their rebounding effort was solid, but the offensive execution was not sharp enough to undo Sparta's early advantage.

Standout players

• Agnieszka Wójcik (Sparta Ziebice): led the scoring effort with a composed shooting display from the wing.
• Karolina Nowak (Sparta Ziebice): a double-double of points and rebounds, anchoring the interior on both ends.
• Magdalena Kaczmarek (Sparta Ziebice): controlled the tempo at point guard and delivered several key assists in the second half.
• Paulina Zielińska (Leszno Pompax Women): the hosts' leading scorer, battling hard throughout despite limited support.

What it means for the table

The win strengthens Sparta Ziebice's position in the Poland 1 Liga Women standings and gives them a valuable road result to build on. Their defensive consistency has been a hallmark of their season so far, and this performance was another example of it.

For Leszno Pompax Women, the defeat is a reminder of the work still to be done, particularly in taking care of the basketball and creating cleaner looks in the half court. A response in their next fixture will be essential if they are to keep pace in a competitive league schedule.
