Leszno Pompax Women suffered a 67-74 home defeat to AZS Uni Gdansk Women in Poland 1 Liga Women on September 27, 2026, as the visitors produced a composed fourth-quarter finish to secure a valuable road win. The result moves Gdansk into a strong early-season position while leaving Leszno to search for consistency on both ends of the floor.

Match Overview

The contest at Leszno’s home arena was billed as a test of two teams with contrasting styles. Leszno Pompax Women came in looking to impose themselves inside and use their home crowd to dictate tempo, while AZS Uni Gdansk Women arrived with a reputation for balanced scoring and disciplined half-court defense. Over 40 minutes, that balance proved decisive.

Gdansk led 38-35 at halftime after a tightly contested opening two quarters. The game remained within one possession for much of the first half, with neither side able to build a double-digit advantage. But a 22-13 third-quarter run from the visitors created the separation that ultimately decided the game, even as Leszno mounted a late comeback in the fourth.

How the Game Unfolded

The first quarter set the tone for a physical, low-margin battle. Leszno attacked the paint early, drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line, while Gdansk answered with patient ball movement and timely outside shooting. The hosts held a slim 19-18 edge after ten minutes, but the visitors had already shown they could score in multiple ways.

The second quarter turned into a defensive struggle. Both teams traded baskets in bunches, but neither could pull away. Gdansk’s guards did a better job of controlling the pace late in the half, and a short 6-0 spurt just before the break gave them a three-point cushion at 38-35. Leszno’s half-court offense became increasingly reliant on individual creation, a pattern that would hurt them after the interval.

The third quarter was the turning point. AZS Uni Gdansk Women opened with an 8-0 run, forcing Leszno into an early timeout. The visitors extended their lead to 60-48 by the end of the period, capitalizing on live-ball turnovers and second-chance points. Leszno’s offense stalled against Gdansk’s compact zone, and the home side managed just 13 points in the quarter.

Leszno refused to go away quietly. A 12-3 run midway through the fourth quarter cut the deficit to 63-58 and brought the home crowd back into the game. But Gdansk responded with poise, knocking down free throws and converting a crucial offensive rebound into a put-back that pushed the lead back to seven. From there, the visitors managed the clock and closed out the 67-74 victory.

Key Moments and Turning Points

• End of first half: Gdansk’s late 6-0 run turned a one-point deficit into a 38-35 halftime lead, giving the visitors momentum into the locker room.
• Third-quarter explosion: An 8-0 start to the second half, followed by a 22-13 overall quarter, gave AZS Uni Gdansk Women a 60-48 advantage heading into the final period.

• Clutch free throws: Gdansk made key free throws in the final two minutes to keep Leszno at arm’s length.

Tactical Story

AZS Uni Gdansk Women won this game with defense and rebounding. Their 2-3 zone slowed Leszno’s half-court attack, particularly in the third quarter, and their guards did an excellent job of collapsing on drivers without conceding easy kick-out three-pointers. Gdansk also controlled the defensive glass, limiting Leszno to few second-chance opportunities during the decisive stretch.

On offense, Gdansk shared the ball effectively. They finished with four players in double figures and consistently found the open shooter against Leszno’s rotating defense. Their ability to score inside and out made them difficult to guard for a full 40 minutes.

Leszno Pompax Women showed flashes of quality, especially in transition and when attacking the rim. But their half-court execution was inconsistent, and they settled for contested jumpers when the game tightened. Defensively, they struggled to contain Gdansk’s pick-and-roll action, which repeatedly created open looks or mismatches near the basket.
