Key moments

The first half was an offensive showcase. San Miguel’s guards found seams in NLEX’s defense, while the Road Warriors responded with quick transition attacks and confident perimeter shooting. The Beermen’s 63-59 halftime lead felt fragile because neither team could string together enough stops.

The third quarter turned into a trade of baskets. NLEX edged the period 35-34, cutting the deficit to one possession entering the fourth. In the final period, both teams traded leads multiple times. San Miguel’s experience showed in the last two minutes, when they slowed the tempo, attacked the right matchup, and converted crucial free throws.

NLEX had a final chance to tie or win, but San Miguel’s defense forced a difficult look. The Beermen secured the rebound and ran out the clock to complete the 135-133 victory.

Tactical story

San Miguel’s offense was at its best when the ball moved quickly and their guards attacked the paint. The Beermen generated open looks by drawing help defenders and making the extra pass. Their ability to score in transition also kept NLEX from setting its half-court defense.

NLEX matched San Miguel almost shot for shot. The Road Warriors attacked early in the shot clock and punished defensive lapses. However, their defensive rebounding and foul discipline let them down at key moments. San Miguel’s late-game composure, especially at the free-throw line, made the difference in a game that could have gone either way.

Standout performers

San Miguel’s backcourt controlled the pace and delivered in crunch time, while their frontcourt provided timely finishes around the rim. The Beermen’s bench also contributed important scoring bursts that kept the team afloat during NLEX’s runs.

For NLEX, the Road Warriors got strong production from their perimeter players and repeatedly attacked the basket with confidence. Their effort was enough to push San Miguel to the final possession, but they will rue the defensive possessions that allowed easy baskets late.

Season impact

The win gives San Miguel Beermen a valuable victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup standings and reinforces their reputation as a team that executes under pressure. NLEX Road Warriors leave with a narrow loss but plenty of encouragement from their offensive performance. In a competition where point differential and late-game execution matter, San Miguel’s two-point escape could prove significant.
