Key Moments

The decisive run came midway through the fourth quarter. With Colonias threatening to cut the deficit to a single possession, Olympia Uruguay responded with a string of efficient offensive possessions. The visitors attacked the paint, drew fouls, and converted at the free-throw line to keep Colonias from completing the comeback.

Colonias had its moments, particularly in the second quarter when the home side found rhythm from the perimeter and matched Olympia’s scoring pace. But the Gold could not string together enough defensive stops in the final period to turn the game around.

Tactical Story

Olympia Uruguay’s offensive balance was a key factor. The visitors shared the ball well, moved without it, and consistently found open shooters against Colonias’ rotating defense. Their ability to score from both the perimeter and the paint made them difficult to guard for extended stretches.

Colonias Gold competed hard on the boards and generated second-chance points, but the home side struggled to contain Olympia’s dribble penetration. That allowed Olympia to collapse the defense and create open looks from the outside. In a game decided by eight points, those extra clean looks mattered.

Standout Performers

Olympia’s perimeter players controlled the tempo and made smart decisions in the closing minutes. The visitors’ inside presence also played a major role, securing important rebounds and finishing around the rim. Their combined effort gave Olympia the edge in a high-scoring contest.

For Colonias Gold, the effort was evident throughout. The home side’s scoring balance kept the game within reach, and its second-half push showed resilience. However, Colonias needed one more defensive surge in the fourth quarter and could not find it against Olympia’s patient attack.

Standings and Season Context

The victory strengthens Olympia Uruguay’s position and adds an important road result to its Paraguay Primera campaign. For Colonias Gold, the loss is a frustrating one because the team remained competitive for much of the night. The 88-80 scoreline highlights how small margins — a few stops, a few rebounds, a few free throws — can decide basketball games.

Both teams will take lessons from the matchup. Olympia will be pleased with its late-game execution, while Colonias will focus on tightening its defense and finding ways to close out tight fourth quarters.
