Vytis produced a commanding offensive display on October 23, 2026, defeating KK Baltai Kaunas 97-85 in a Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga matchup. The home side broke the game open in the second quarter and maintained control the rest of the way, answering every Baltai Kaunas run with timely shot-making.

Match overview

Vytis led 24-20 after a competitive first quarter, then seized the initiative with a 27-19 second period that pushed the halftime score to 51-39. Baltai Kaunas fought back in the third quarter, winning it 25-23, but Vytis restored order in the fourth and closed out a 23-21 final period. The 97-point total was built on efficient perimeter shooting and a steady stream of points in the paint.

The game was played at a quick pace, with both teams looking to attack early in the shot clock. Vytis handled that tempo better, committing fewer unforced errors and finding open shooters against Baltai Kaunas’ rotating defense. The visitors stayed within striking distance until the middle of the fourth quarter, but Vytis’ depth and rebounding eventually wore them down.

Key moments

• Vytis closed the first quarter with a 7-2 run to take a four-point lead into the break.
• A 12-0 second-quarter surge, fueled by three consecutive three-pointers, gave the home side a 43-29 advantage.
• Baltai Kaunas cut the deficit to eight midway through the third quarter, but Vytis responded with a 6-0 run of its own.
• In the final three minutes, Vytis made six straight free throws to keep the visitors from mounting a late comeback.

Tactical story

Vytis’ offense was built around ball movement and spacing. The home team repeatedly used pick-and-roll actions to draw help defenders before swinging the ball to the weak side, creating clean catch-and-shoot opportunities. That approach produced a balanced scoring effort and forced Baltai Kaunas to defend the entire half court. Vytis also won the rebounding battle, limiting second-chance points and allowing its guards to push the pace after defensive stops.

Baltai Kaunas had success when it attacked the rim directly, particularly in the third quarter, but the visitors struggled to contain Vytis’ backcourt dribble penetration. Their defensive rotations were a step slow for much of the night, and Vytis made them pay from beyond the arc. The visitors’ late pressure forced a few turnovers, but by then the margin was too large.

Standout performers

Vytis guard Aurimas Kazlauskas led all scorers with 26 points and added five assists, while teammate Martynas Šimkus recorded 20 points and eight rebounds. Forward Paulius Venckus gave the home side a strong two-way performance with 15 points and three blocks. For KK Baltai Kaunas, point guard Ignas Rutkauskas finished with 22 points and seven assists, and center Edvinas Grigas posted 16 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

Standings and season impact

The win gives Vytis a valuable home victory and momentum in the Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga standings, where offensive efficiency and depth are already emerging as key differentiators. KK Baltai Kaunas will take encouragement from its third-quarter response but must address its perimeter defense and rebounding before the next round. The head-to-head result also adds an important early-season tiebreaker should the teams finish close together in the table.
