Silute collected a solid 80-72 home victory over Vilniaus Stekas on 3 October 2026, grinding out a win built on timely three-point shooting and a decisive third-quarter push. In a contest that stayed competitive for three quarters, Silute's ability to answer every Vilniaus Stekas run proved the difference in the Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga.

The eight-point final margin slightly flatters the visitors, who trailed by 12 midway through the fourth before a late flurry of scoring trimmed the gap. It was nevertheless a hard-fought, physical game, and Silute's composure in the closing minutes secured two valuable points at home.

Match overview

Silute led for all but a four-minute stretch in the second quarter. Their defence held Vilniaus Stekas to 35 second-half points, and a 10-2 run late in the third quarter gave them the cushion they protected the rest of the way.

Key moments

• First half: A tight, low-scoring opening 20 minutes in which neither side led by more than five, with Silute taking a six-point lead into the break.
• Third quarter: Vilniaus Stekas briefly levelled at 55-55, but a 10-2 Silute response, capped by a corner three, restored control.
• Fourth quarter: Silute extended to a 12-point lead before a late 6-0 run from the visitors made the closing scoreline respectable.

Tactical story

Silute's half-court defence was the story. They protected the paint with a compact help scheme, forcing Vilniaus Stekas into a 6-of-25 night from beyond the arc, and cleaned up the defensive glass whenever the visitors missed. Offensively, Silute played through their big men in the high post, using hand-offs and back-door cuts to create driving lanes against an over-extended defence.

Vilniaus Stekas stayed in the game through effort on the offensive boards and a handful of second-chance baskets, but their half-court offence lacked movement when Silute switched screens. The inability to draw fouls or get to the free-throw line in the fourth quarter left them chasing the game rather than controlling it.

Standout players

• Edvinas Rimgaila (Silute): 19 points and 5 assists, the game's most reliable late-game shot creator.
• Tomas Barkauskas (Silute): 15 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double built on interior work at both ends.
• Benas Žukauskas (Silute): 12 points off the bench, all of them inside the arc, providing a crucial spark in the third quarter.
• Andrius Kazlauskas (Vilniaus Stekas): 17 points, keeping his team in touch with tough contested jumpers.
• Gabrielius Matulis (Vilniaus Stekas): 14 points and 8 rebounds in a battling performance in the paint.

Season impact

Home wins against mid-table rivals carry extra weight in the NKL, where the table is frequently separated by a single victory. Silute move up the standings with a win that underlined their defensive identity, and their ability to close out tight fourth quarters is an encouraging sign for the months ahead. Vilniaus Stekas leave with a useful road performance but will rue a cold shooting night, particularly from three, where the game was there to be taken.
