Pyrintö Tampere Women took care of business at home in the Naisten Korisliiga, defeating Tapiolan Honka Women 80–74 in a contest that stayed close until the final minutes before the hosts pulled away with a composed closing stretch.

The win gives Pyrintö a valuable result against a fellow playoff contender, while Honka will feel they left points on the floor after staying level for three quarters.

Match Overview

• Final score: Pyrintö Tampere Women 80, Tapiolan Honka Women 74
• Competition: Naisten Korisliiga (Finnish Women's Basketball League)
• Date: 4 October 2026
• Venue: Home court, Tampere

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither side able to build a lead beyond a couple of possessions. Honka's half-court execution was sharp early, while Pyrintö relied on their speed in transition and aggressive drives to the rim. The teams went into the break separated by a single basket.

Key Moments

The third quarter followed a similar pattern until Pyrintö found a rhythm defensively. A blocked shot at one end led to a fast-break layup at the other, sparking a run that briefly pushed the lead to eight. Honka answered with back-to-back threes to make it a one-point game heading into the fourth.

In the final period, Pyrintö's discipline at the free-throw line proved decisive. With Honka forced to foul in the closing two minutes, the hosts knocked down their attempts and refused to give the visitors a second-chance opportunity on the glass.

Tactical Story

Pyrintö's advantage came inside the paint, where their forwards repeatedly attacked the offensive boards and drew contact. That physicality translated into free throws and foul trouble for Honka's frontcourt, which limited their defensive options late.

Honka stayed in the game through perimeter shooting and intelligent ball movement, but their inability to generate easy points in the half court when the pace slowed proved costly. The Tampere side's switchable defense also disrupted Honka's pick-and-roll actions in the fourth quarter.

Standout Performers

Pyrintö's leading scorer carried the offense through the middle quarters and was reliable in the clutch, while their point guard dictated tempo and found open shooters on kick-outs. The bench provided an important spark with energy minutes that kept the intensity high.

For Honka, the guards were the bright spot, combining accurate three-point shooting with smart decisions in transition. Their center battled hard on the boards despite foul trouble, but the supporting cast struggled to score consistently down the stretch.

Season Impact

Pyrintö Tampere Women move forward with momentum and a head-to-head edge that could matter when playoff seeding is decided. Tapiolan Honka Women, meanwhile, will look to tighten their late-game execution, knowing that in the Naisten Korisliiga the margin between a top-four finish and a mid-table one is often just a handful of possessions.
