Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda survived a tense Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga battle on October 22, 2026, defeating Palangakursie 78-77 in a game that came down to the final possession. The home side led for long stretches but needed a composed finish and a late defensive stand to secure the one-point win.

Match overview

The contest was closely fought from the opening tip, with neither team able to build a comfortable advantage. Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda took a narrow 20-18 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime level at 39-39 after Palangakursie responded with a 21-19 second period. The home team edged ahead again in the third quarter, 56-55, before a back-and-forth final period ended 22-22 and left the visitors one point short.

The game featured 12 lead changes and was tied on eight occasions, reflecting how evenly matched the two sides were in half-court execution and transition defense. Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda shot a solid percentage from inside the arc and made just enough free throws in the closing minute, while Palangakursie’s final attempt to steal the win rimmed out at the buzzer.

Key moments

• Palangakursie opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to briefly take control, forcing an early Neptunas-Akvaservis timeout.
• Neptunas-Akvaservis answered with an 11-2 surge before halftime, capped by a corner three-pointer that tied the game at 39-39.
• With under two minutes remaining, the home team forced a turnover and converted a fast-break layup to take a 76-73 lead.
• Palangakursie cut the deficit to one with a contested jumper, but Neptunas-Akvaservis made one of two free throws with 8.4 seconds left and then denied the visitors a clean look at the buzzer.

Tactical story

Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda did much of its best work through patient half-court sets, using high ball screens to create driving lanes and kick-out opportunities. The home guards kept the offense organized down the stretch and limited live-ball turnovers in the fourth quarter. Palangakursie, by contrast, relied heavily on isolation plays and second-chance points; the visitors won the offensive rebounding battle but could not turn that edge into enough clean looks from beyond the arc.

The decisive tactical difference came on the defensive end. Neptunas-Akvaservis switched more aggressively on perimeter screens late in the game, forcing Palangakursie into contested mid-range shots. That adjustment helped the home team survive a final possession in which the visitors had a chance to win but settled for a difficult fadeaway.

Standout performers

Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda was led by point guard Mantas Vaitkus, who finished with 18 points and seven assists while committing only two turnovers. Rokas Žukauskas added 14 points and 11 rebounds, giving the home side a valuable interior presence on both ends. Palangakursie’s Deividas Skučas was the game’s top scorer with 21 points, including four three-pointers, while center Lukas Petrauskas chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

Standings and season impact

The one-point result gives Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda an important early-season confidence boost and a valuable head-to-head edge in the Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga standings. For Palangakursie, the loss is a frustrating one, but the narrow margin suggests the team can compete closely with the league’s stronger sides. Both clubs will now turn their attention to the next round, where consistency in close games is likely to shape the playoff race.
