Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda use third-quarter surge to beat Mazeikiai 90-77

Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda defeated Mazeikiai 90-77 in the Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga on October 17, 2026, breaking open a close game with a dominant third quarter. The visitors outscored Mazeikiai 27-14 in the period, turning a one-point halftime lead into a comfortable advantage.

Mazeikiai stayed within reach early and even briefly threatened a fourth-quarter comeback, but Klaipeda’s perimeter shooting and defensive pressure proved too much. The 13-point final margin reflected the visitors’ control over the middle stages of the game.

Match overview

Klaipeda led 23-19 after the first quarter, but Mazeikiai responded to take a 41-40 halftime edge. The game shifted immediately after the break. Klaipeda opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run and never looked back, building a 68-54 lead by the end of the period.

Mazeikiai cut the deficit to 10 early in the fourth, but Klaipeda answered with back-to-back three-pointers to restore control. The visitors then slowed the pace and protected the ball well enough to close out the win.

Key moments

The third-quarter surge was the story of the game. Klaipeda’s guards attacked Mazeikiai’s pressure defense, created open looks from beyond the arc and forced turnovers that led to easy transition baskets. The 27-14 period changed the complexion of the contest and put Mazeikiai in chase mode.

Mazeikiai’s best chance to rally came midway through the fourth, when a quick 6-0 run made it 74-64. Klaipeda responded with a corner three and a steal that led to a layup, pushing the lead back to 15 and effectively ending the comeback attempt.

Tactical story

Klaipeda’s defensive pressure was instrumental in the second half. They extended their defense, disrupted Mazeikiai’s rhythm and forced several hurried shots. The visitors also won the rebounding battle after halftime, limiting Mazeikiai’s second-chance opportunities.

Offensively, Klaipeda’s spacing was excellent. Their guards consistently found open shooters when Mazeikiai collapsed into the paint, and their ball movement created high-quality three-point attempts. Mazeikiai struggled to close out under control, and their foul trouble further complicated the defensive effort.

Standout performers

Klaipeda’s leading guard finished with 22 points, including five three-pointers, and controlled the tempo in the second half. A forward added 17 points and nine rebounds, providing balance inside and out. Their bench also delivered timely minutes, helping Klaipeda maintain its intensity during the decisive third-quarter run.

Mazeikiai’s top scorer finished with 20 points but was hampered by six turnovers. The home side received decent production from its frontcourt, yet the backcourt’s struggles against Klaipeda’s pressure defense prevented Mazeikiai from sustaining momentum.

Season impact

The road win strengthens Neptunas-Akvaservis Klaipeda’s position in the Nacionaline Krepsinio Lyga standings and shows they can win in different ways. For Mazeikiai, the loss is a reminder that turnovers and poor third quarters can quickly turn a competitive game. Mazeikiai will need to handle pressure better in their next outing, while Klaipeda can take confidence from a mature second-half performance.
