Kouvot Kouvola Women edge Pyrintö Tampere Women 63-57 in Naisten Korisliiga battle

Kouvot Kouvola Women secured a hard-fought 63-57 home victory over Pyrintö Tampere Women in the Naisten Korisliiga on October 10, 2026. In a game defined by defense, rebounding and late-game execution, Kouvot made just enough plays down the stretch to hold off a determined Pyrintö side.

The win was especially valuable because it came against a direct league rival. Neither team ever led by more than nine points, and the final margin was decided in the last three minutes when Kouvot converted key free throws and forced two critical stops.

Match overview

Kouvot started strongly, taking the first quarter 18-14 behind efficient half-court offense. Pyrintö responded in the second, using a 12-16 quarter to level the score at 30-30 by halftime. The third quarter proved decisive: Kouvot won it 17-13, carried a four-point lead into the fourth, and then protected that advantage with a 16-14 closing period.

The game was a classic Naisten Korisliiga contest: physical in the paint, cautious in transition, and heavily dependent on half-court execution. Kouvot’s ability to score through contact and get to the free-throw line made the difference.

Key moments

• First-quarter control: Kouvot’s early 10-4 run set the tone and forced Pyrintö to play from behind.
• Pyrintö’s second-quarter answer: Tampere tied the game at halftime with a patient offense and a pair of three-pointers.
• Third-quarter surge: Kouvot opened the second half with an 8-0 run, reclaiming momentum for good.
• Clutch finish: In the final two minutes, Kouvot hit four free throws and forced a shot-clock violation to seal the win.

Tactical story

Kouvot’s defensive game plan centered on protecting the paint and contesting Pyrintö’s perimeter shooters. They switched screens effectively and limited second-chance points by boxing out aggressively. On offense, Kouvot leaned on high ball screens and interior passing, drawing fouls and generating open mid-range looks.

Pyrintö stayed close by moving the ball quickly and attacking the offensive glass. Their guards found gaps in Kouvot’s zone, but the team struggled to convert around the rim in the fourth quarter. A few empty possessions proved costly in such a tight game.

Standout players

Kouvot’s point guard controlled the pace and delivered several key assists in the second half. Their forward was a force on the boards, finishing with a double-double and hitting important free throws. Pyrintö’s shooting guard kept her team in the game with timely three-point shooting, while their center battled hard inside despite foul trouble.

Season impact

The win strengthens Kouvot Kouvola Women’s position in the Naisten Korisliiga standings and gives them a valuable head-to-head edge in the early season race. Pyrintö Tampere Women leave with a narrow loss but can take confidence from their defensive effort. Both teams look capable of competing for a playoff spot, and the next meeting between these two will carry even more weight.
