Alytaus Patriotai vs Suduva Mantinga: Mantinga Hold Firm in 87-80 Road Win

Suduva Mantinga left Alytus with an important 87-80 victory over Alytaus Patriotai on 8 October 2026, closing out a tight Nacionalinė Krepšinio Lyga contest that remained in the balance deep into the fourth quarter. The visitors' 87 points represented the difference on a night when both teams shot the ball well and the game was decided by execution in the final six minutes rather than by any single dominant stretch.

The result continues a strong run of form for Mantinga, who have looked increasingly comfortable on the road, while Alytaus Patriotai are left to reflect on a performance that produced plenty of offensive quality but not quite enough defensive stops at the critical moments.

Match Overview

• Competition: Nacionalinė Krepšinio Lyga
• Home team: Alytaus Patriotai
• Away team: Suduva Mantinga
• Date: 8 October 2026
• Final score: Alytaus Patriotai 80 – 87 Suduva Mantinga

A seven-point final margin flatters the visitors slightly, because for long stretches this was a one-possession game. Mantinga led for most of the evening, but Patriotai repeatedly clawed their way back, cutting the deficit to four early in the fourth and forcing Suduva to make plays down the stretch. In the end, it was composure from the free-throw line and a couple of well-executed half-court sets that separated the sides.

Quarter by Quarter

• Q1: Alytaus Patriotai 22 – 24 Suduva Mantinga
• Q2: Alytaus Patriotai 18 – 21 Suduva Mantinga
• Q3: Alytaus Patriotai 20 – 19 Suduva Mantinga
• Q4: Alytaus Patriotai 20 – 23 Suduva Mantinga

The first quarter set the tone: fast, open basketball with both teams happy to attack early in the shot clock. Mantinga's ball movement was sharper, generating open looks from the wing and a steady stream of points in the paint. Patriotai answered with dribble penetration and offensive rebounding, but their defensive rotations were a half-step slow throughout the opening period.

The second quarter was where the gap widened. Mantinga's bench contributed important minutes, extending the lead with a run based on stops and quick outlet passes. Patriotai kept in touch through three-point shooting, but a run of empty possessions before half-time left them chasing the game.

Key Moments

The third quarter was Patriotai's best spell. A renewed emphasis on defensive pressure produced turnovers, and their transition attack finally found rhythm, trimming the deficit to a single possession. The home crowd sensed a turnaround, and Mantinga briefly looked rattled, settling for contested jumpers as the shot clock wound down.

The decisive stretch came with roughly five minutes remaining. With the score tight, Suduva Mantinga executed a series of disciplined possessions: a pick-and-roll finished at the rim, a kick-out three from the corner, and a pair of free throws after drawing a foul on a drive. Patriotai, needing a response, missed two open looks from beyond the arc and turned the ball over on a careless entry pass. That sequence effectively decided the game.

Tactical Story

Suduva Mantinga's win was built on efficiency rather than volume. They shot a healthy percentage from the field, kept turnovers low in the second half and attacked the mismatch whenever Patriotai switched on screens. Their half-court offence was patient, with the ball reversing sides of the floor to shift the defence before the decisive pass.

Alytaus Patriotai, meanwhile, played with pace and aggression but lacked the same control in tight moments. Their defence generated enough stops to stay within range, yet the rebounding battle went slightly against them, gifting Mantinga second-chance points at key junctures. On offence, the hosts relied heavily on individual creation; when Mantinga's help defence arrived on time, the ball stalled and possessions ended in difficult attempts.

Foul discipline also mattered. Patriotai put their opponents on the line too often in the fourth quarter, and Mantinga converted those opportunities — a detail that frequently decides games at this level.
