Charlotte Hornets protected home court with a 110-103 victory over the Washington Wizards in an NBA matchup on October 27, 2026. The Hornets used a balanced offensive effort and a late fourth-quarter push to turn a tight contest into a hard-fought win.

Match overview

Charlotte took the first quarter 28-24 and added a 27-26 edge in the second to lead 55-50 at halftime. Washington fought back in the third, outscoring the Hornets 28-25 to trim the deficit to 80-78 heading into the final period. The game remained close until the closing minutes, when Charlotte put together a decisive run to secure the 110-103 result. The Hornets’ defense tightened late, forcing Washington into contested shots and securing the rebound on key possessions.

Key moments

The defining stretch came with just over three minutes remaining. Charlotte broke a tie with a 10-2 run, capped by a transition dunk and a three-pointer from the wing. Washington called timeout, but the Hornets maintained their defensive intensity and converted free throws down the stretch. The Wizards had chances to cut the lead, but a pair of turnovers and a missed open look allowed Charlotte to close out the game.

Tactical story

Charlotte’s offense was at its best when the ball moved quickly and the guards attacked the paint. The Hornets generated open corner threes and used their athleticism to finish at the rim. Defensively, they switched effectively on the perimeter and limited Washington’s clean looks from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. Washington stayed in the game through shot-making and transition scoring, but Charlotte’s late-game execution and rebounding proved decisive.

Standout performers

Charlotte’s backcourt set the tone, with LaMelo Ball directing the offense and creating opportunities for his teammates. Brandon Miller provided important scoring from the wing, while the Hornets’ frontcourt controlled the glass. For Washington, Jordan Poole led the scoring effort, and Alex Sarr made an impact inside, but the Wizards could not match Charlotte’s late-game poise.

Season impact

The win gives the Hornets a valuable early-season result in the Eastern Conference standings and reinforces their ability to close out tight games at home. For the Wizards, the loss is a missed opportunity to steal a road win, though their competitiveness against Charlotte offers positives. Both teams will look to build on this performance as the NBA regular season continues.
