The Boston Celtics edged the New York Knicks 107-103 at TD Garden on October 24, 2026, winning a tightly contested National Basketball Association matchup with poise in the final minutes and a series of important defensive stops down the stretch.

In a game that featured 12 lead changes and neither team leading by more than nine points, Boston’s late-game execution proved decisive. The Celtics improved their early-season standing in the Eastern Conference, while the Knicks left with a narrow defeat despite a strong offensive performance from their backcourt.

Match overview

Boston led 51-48 at halftime after a competitive first half. The Celtics took the opening quarter 24-22 and added a 27-26 edge in the second. New York stayed close behind efficient shot-making and aggressive drives, but Boston’s switching defense made life difficult in the final seconds of several possessions.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern. Boston pushed ahead 80-75 after three, using a 29-27 advantage in the period. The Knicks responded repeatedly, but every time they threatened to take control, the Celtics found a timely basket or a crucial defensive rebound.

Key moments

The decisive sequence came in the final four minutes. With the score tied at 98, Boston produced a 7-0 run capped by a transition dunk and a step-back jumper from the elbow. New York answered with a three-pointer to cut the gap to two, but the Celtics made four straight free throws in the closing minute to protect the lead.

The Knicks had one last chance to tie after a missed Boston free throw, but a contested three-pointer from the wing rimmed out. The Celtics secured the rebound, and the home crowd celebrated a hard-earned win over a conference rival.

Tactical story

Boston’s defensive versatility was central to the result. The Celtics switched screens effectively, limited clean looks from beyond the arc, and forced New York into several late-clock attempts. Offensively, Boston attacked the paint early and then used that pressure to create open perimeter shots in the second half.

The Knicks won the rebounding battle for long stretches and generated second-chance points, but they could not convert enough open threes in the fourth quarter. Boston’s bench also provided a useful spark, helping maintain energy while the starters rested.

Standout performers

• Jayson Tatum led Boston with 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists, scoring key baskets in the fourth quarter.
• Jaylen Brown added 24 points, including several important transition finishes.
• Derrick White contributed 16 points and strong perimeter defense.
• Jalen Brunson paced New York with 27 points and eight assists.
• Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 22 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

Season impact

The win gives Boston another valuable early-season result in the Eastern Conference standings and adds another chapter to the long-running Celtics-Knicks head-to-head rivalry. For New York, the performance offered plenty of positives, but the Knicks will be frustrated by missed opportunities in the final two minutes. Both teams will quickly turn their attention to the next game on the schedule.
