Jaibos de Tampico picked up an important road victory in Mexican basketball’s CIBACOPA, defeating Mineros de Parral 85-70 on October 17, 2026. The visitors used a balanced offensive attack and a decisive second-half surge to pull away from a stubborn Parral side, turning a competitive game into a comfortable double-digit win by the final buzzer.

The result gives Jaibos de Tampico a valuable win away from home and adds momentum to their CIBACOPA campaign. For Mineros de Parral, the loss was a frustrating home outing marked by cold shooting stretches and turnovers at the wrong moments, especially after they had briefly threatened to make it a one-possession game in the second half.

Match Overview: Mineros de Parral vs Jaibos de Tampico

The game was played in Parral, with Mineros serving as hosts in a regular-season CIBACOPA matchup. Tampico set the tone early with better ball movement and aggressive perimeter defense, while Parral relied on its interior scoring and home-crowd energy to stay within reach through the opening quarter.

By halftime, the Jaibos had built a nine-point cushion. They extended the lead in the third quarter and then closed the game with a professional fourth-quarter performance, never allowing the Mineros to complete a comeback.

Halftime score: Jaibos de Tampico 43, Mineros de Parral 34.

Key Moments That Shaped the Result

Tampico opened the game with purpose, moving the ball quickly and finding open looks from beyond the arc. The Jaibos led 22-18 after the first quarter, but Parral stayed close early by attacking the paint and drawing fouls. The home side’s best stretch came in the opening minutes of the third quarter, when an 8-2 run cut the deficit to 45-42 and brought the Parral crowd back into the game.

The response from Jaibos de Tampico was immediate and decisive. A 12-3 run, fueled by back-to-back steals and transition baskets, pushed the lead back to double digits. By the end of the third quarter, Tampico led 63-53, and Parral was forced to chase the game.

Mineros made one final push in the fourth, trimming the gap to 65-59 with just over seven minutes remaining. But the Jaibos answered with a 13-4 burst that effectively sealed the outcome. Tampico’s execution in the closing minutes — smart shot selection, timely offensive rebounds, and free throws — contrasted with Parral’s rushed possessions down the stretch.

Tactical Story: Defense and Ball Movement Decide It

Jaibos de Tampico won this game on the defensive end. Their active hands disrupted Parral’s rhythm, forcing turnovers and limiting clean looks from the perimeter. Tampico’s guards did a strong job of containing dribble penetration and rotating out to shooters, while the frontcourt controlled the defensive glass when it mattered most.

Offensively, the Jaibos shared the ball well. They finished with a clear advantage in assists and repeatedly found the open man against Parral’s half-court defense. Tampico’s ability to score in transition after misses and turnovers proved especially damaging in the third quarter, when the game tilted permanently in their favor.

Mineros de Parral had stretches of solid interior play, but the team struggled to string together stops. Parral’s offense became too dependent on individual plays, and when the outside shot stopped falling, the Mineros had difficulty generating second-chance points. The home side also left points at the free-throw line and committed costly turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Standout Performers

Andre Copeland led Jaibos de Tampico with 24 points, seven assists, and four rebounds, controlling the pace and making key plays whenever Parral threatened. Luis Mendoza added 18 points and 10 rebounds, giving Tampico a strong inside-outside presence. The Jaibos bench also contributed meaningful minutes, outscoring Parral’s reserves and helping maintain defensive intensity.

For Mineros de Parral, Diego Villalobos scored 19 points and was the team’s most consistent offensive threat. Emmanuel Ruiz added 14 points and nine rebounds, battling on the boards throughout. Despite their efforts, Parral did not get enough balanced scoring around them to keep pace with Tampico’s second-half surge.
