Frayles de Guasave produced a commanding home performance in the Mexican Pacific Coast Basketball League (CIBACOPA), defeating Escuderos de Jalisco 99-82 on Sunday, October 18, 2026. A balanced offensive attack and a decisive second-quarter run allowed the Frayles to control the game from the opening minutes and secure a valuable regular-season win in front of their home crowd at the Gimnasio Municipal de Guasave.

Game overview

The Sunday matinee tipped off at 11:00 local time, and the Frayles wasted little time establishing the tempo. Guasave attacked the paint early, moved the ball efficiently against Escuderos’ switching defense, and built a lead that would never fully slip away. By halftime, the home side had created a 51-38 advantage, and although Escuderos de Jalisco made several runs in the second half, they could not close the gap enough to threaten the result.

How the Frayles built the win

Frayles de Guasave opened the game with purpose, scoring 26 first-quarter points behind strong inside play and quick transition baskets. Escuderos de Jalisco stayed within striking distance early, but Guasave’s defensive activity began to force tough shots and long rebounds. The second quarter proved to be the turning point: the Frayles outscored Escuderos 25-18, pushed the pace off misses, and repeatedly found open shooters on the perimeter. That 12-minute stretch transformed a competitive first quarter into a 13-point halftime cushion.

Guasave’s frontcourt dominated the glass, giving the team second-chance opportunities while limiting Escuderos to mostly one-shot possessions. The Frayles also protected the ball well in the first half, avoiding the careless turnovers that can let an underdog stay close on the road.

Key moments

Escuderos de Jalisco came out of the locker room with renewed energy and opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run, trimming the deficit to 53-46 and forcing a Guasave timeout. The visitors briefly looked capable of making it a single-digit game heading into the fourth. Instead, the Frayles responded with an 11-0 burst of their own, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers and a fast-break dunk that brought the home crowd to its feet. The run restored a comfortable double-digit lead and took the momentum out of Escuderos’ comeback attempt.

In the fourth quarter, Escuderos made one final push, cutting the margin to 11 points with just over five minutes remaining. Guasave answered with disciplined half-court execution, drawing fouls and converting at the free-throw line. The Frayles closed the game on a steady run of free throws and defensive stops, sealing the 99-82 victory without needing a dramatic finish.

Standout performers

Luis Ramírez led Frayles de Guasave with 24 points, seven assists, and four rebounds, controlling the pace and making key shots whenever Escuderos threatened. Marcus Thomas added 18 points and 11 rebounds, dominating the interior on both ends. Center Diego Valenzuela contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds, while reserve guard Jorge Acosta gave the bench a spark with 12 points, including two important three-pointers in the second half.

For Escuderos de Jalisco, Jared Wilson scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Emilio Cárdenas added 16 points. Andre Coleman chipped in 12 points, but Escuderos struggled to find consistent offense outside their top contributors. The visitors shot 43 percent from the field and made just 7 of 26 attempts from beyond the arc, while Guasave shot 54 percent overall and connected on 9 of 24 three-pointers.

Tactical story

Frayles de Guasave’s game plan revolved around paint touches and ball movement. The guards repeatedly attacked off high pick-and-rolls, forcing Escuderos’ big men to help and opening passing lanes to the corners. When Escuderos switched, Guasave punished the mismatch inside with Thomas and Valenzuela. The Frayles also won the rebounding battle 44-34, a statistic that told the story of the game: Guasave generated extra possessions and prevented Escuderos from extending possessions on the offensive glass.

Escuderos de Jalisco relied heavily on isolation plays and perimeter shooting, and when those shots stopped falling in the second quarter, the offense stalled. Defensively, Escuderos could not contain Guasave’s dribble penetration, which led to open threes and easy second-chance points. The visitors’ bench was outsc
