Anahuac Norte (W) won a defensive struggle against Universidad Interamericana Women 46-42 in the Mexico ABE League Women on October 22, 2026. In a game where scoring was hard to come by, Anahuac Norte’s patience and late-game execution made the difference in a four-point home victory.

Match Overview

Both teams prioritized defense from the opening tip, contesting every shot and making each possession feel important. Anahuac Norte led 12-10 after the first quarter and 23-19 at halftime, but neither advantage felt safe. Universidad Interamericana stayed within reach by forcing turnovers and attacking the offensive glass, while Anahuac Norte relied on its half-court structure and interior defense.

The third quarter brought more of the same, with Interamericana narrowing the gap to 33-31 heading into the final period. The quarter-by-quarter scoring—12-10, 11-9, 10-12, 13-11—showed how little separated the sides. Anahuac Norte’s ability to make the final adjustments proved decisive.

Key Moments

The game’s defining sequence came in the fourth quarter when Anahuac Norte produced a 6-0 run to turn a one-point deficit into a five-point lead. The burst began with a defensive rebound and a patient extra pass, followed by a mid-range jumper and a steal that led to a fast-break layup. Interamericana called timeout, but the momentum had shifted.

Interamericana had chances to answer, but Anahuac Norte’s defense tightened near the rim and forced contested shots. In the final minute, Anahuac Norte converted enough free throws to keep the visitors at arm’s length, sealing a win that was built on stops rather than a high-powered offensive display.

Tactical Story

Anahuac Norte’s zone defense gave Interamericana trouble throughout the game, clogging driving lanes and forcing the visitors to settle for outside shots. When Interamericana did break the zone, Anahuac Norte’s help defenders rotated quickly enough to contest at the rim. That discipline was especially important in the fourth quarter, when every possession carried extra weight.

Interamericana’s best stretch came in the third quarter when they increased their defensive pressure and created turnovers. However, they could not sustain that intensity on the offensive end. Missed free throws and empty possessions in the final minutes proved costly in such a low-scoring game.

Standout Performers

• Anahuac Norte’s interior defense: Protected the paint and forced difficult shots late.
• Anahuac Norte’s guards: Handled pressure and made smart decisions in the fourth quarter.
• Interamericana’s defensive pressure: Sparked a third-quarter comeback attempt.
• Interamericana’s rebounders: Created second-chance opportunities that kept the game close.
