How the game unfolded

Santa Fe opened with a 20-16 first quarter, leaning on aggressive perimeter defense and quick outlets into transition. UDLAP responded well in the second period, scoring 19 points and trimming the halftime deficit to 38-35. The visitors were patient in the half court and found success attacking the basket when Santa Fe’s help defense arrived late.

The third quarter was the turning point. Santa Fe outscored UDLAP 21-14, pushing the lead to 59-49 entering the final period. The run was built on stops rather than shot-making alone: Santa Fe forced turnovers, contested rebounds, and turned several defensive possessions into easy points at the other end. UDLAP matched Santa Fe 18-18 in the fourth quarter, but the earlier deficit proved too difficult to erase.

Key moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the third quarter, when Santa Fe turned defensive pressure into quick offense. A pair of steals led to transition baskets, and an offensive rebound created a second-chance three-point play that pushed the margin into double digits. UDLAP threatened with a brief fourth-quarter run, but Santa Fe’s free-throw shooting and half-court discipline kept the visitors at arm’s length.

Tactical story

Santa Fe’s defensive activity was the difference. The hosts switched aggressively on screens, forced UDLAP into contested mid-range attempts, and limited clean looks from beyond the arc. On offense, Santa Fe shared the ball well and attacked the paint when UDLAP’s big men stepped out. UDLAP’s half-court offense was patient, but too many possessions ended with a forced shot or a turnover, especially after Santa Fe adjusted its help rotations in the third quarter.

The rebounding battle also favored Santa Fe in the second half. By limiting second-chance opportunities and pushing the pace after defensive rebounds, Santa Fe made UDLAP defend for longer stretches and created foul trouble inside.

Standout performers

Santa Fe guard Diego Martínez set the tone with a team-high 18 points, while Rodrigo Salas added 14 and controlled the tempo down the stretch. UDLAP’s Luis Robles led the visitors with 16 points, and the visitors also received steady production from their frontcourt on the offensive glass. Santa Fe’s bench provided important minutes in the second half, helping maintain energy during the decisive third-quarter run.

What it means

The win gives Tec Mty Santa Fe an important result in the Mexico ABE League standings and a useful head-to-head edge over UDLAP for the rest of the campaign. For UDLAP, the 77-67 final is a reminder that the team can compete in the half court but must limit turnovers against pressure defenses. Both sides now turn to their next fixtures with Santa Fe carrying momentum and UDLAP looking for a sharper closing stretch.
