Key moments

• Tec Mty’s 14-2 run early in the first quarter established a lead it never surrendered.
• A defensive stretch late in the second quarter held UP Mexico scoreless for nearly four minutes, helping Monterrey take a 19-point halftime lead.

Tactical story

Monterrey’s defense was the story of the game. Tec Mty pressured the ball handler, closed driving lanes, and rotated quickly to contest perimeter shots. UP Mexico was forced into difficult mid-range attempts and finished with a low shooting percentage, while Monterrey controlled the defensive glass and pushed the pace after every rebound.

On offense, Tec Mty shared the ball well and attacked the rim with purpose. The team’s guard play created penetration, which opened up corner three-pointers and cutbacks to the basket. UP Mexico, by contrast, relied heavily on isolated plays and struggled to generate second-chance points against Monterrey’s size.

Standout players

Diego Herrera led Tec Mty Monterrey with 18 points and seven assists, setting the tempo on both ends. Andrés Salazar added 14 points and 12 rebounds, dominating the paint, while Mario Cárdenas contributed 12 points and active perimeter defense. UP Mexico will need to regroup quickly, particularly on offense, after a game in which it never found comfortable footing. For Monterrey, the performance reinforced its credentials as a team capable of controlling games through defense and depth.
