In a Mexico ABE League thriller that came down to the final possession, Tec Mty Toluca escaped with a 69-68 road victory over Soles Mexicali on October 10, 2026. The game, played at Soles' home court, was a gritty, defensive battle that featured 14 lead changes and neither team leading by more than seven points. The win improves Tec Mty Toluca's standing in the league table, while Soles Mexicali is left to rue a missed opportunity in the closing seconds.

Match Overview

Soles Mexicali came out with energy in front of their home crowd, using a 9-2 run midway through the first quarter to take an early 18-14 lead. Tec Mty Toluca responded with a balanced attack, closing the period on a 6-0 spurt to trail 18-17 after one. The second quarter turned into a defensive slugfest, with both teams struggling to find rhythm from the perimeter. A late three-pointer from Tec Mty's Diego García gave the visitors a 35-33 halftime advantage.

The third quarter saw Soles Mexicali reclaim momentum. Behind aggressive drives from guard Luis Hernández and timely offensive rebounding from center Carlos Mendoza, the home side built a 52-48 lead heading into the final frame. But Tec Mty Toluca refused to fold. A 10-2 run to open the fourth quarter put them back in front, setting up a tense finish that would ultimately be decided by a single point.

Key Moments

With 1:12 remaining, Soles Mexicali's Luis Hernández hit a step-back jumper to tie the game at 66-66. Tec Mty Toluca answered on the next possession when point guard Alejandro Ruiz found García on a backdoor cut for an easy layup, making it 68-66. Hernández then split a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to one with 24 seconds left. After a Tec Mty timeout, Soles forced a turnover on the inbounds pass and had a chance to win it. However, Hernández's contested three-pointer from the top of the key rimmed out, and Tec Mty's García secured the rebound as time expired.

The final minute showcased the poise of Tec Mty Toluca, who executed their late-game offense efficiently and made just enough defensive stops. For Soles Mexicali, the loss was a heartbreaking one, as they had multiple opportunities to seize control in the final two minutes but could not convert.

Tactical Story

Both teams entered the game with a clear defensive game plan. Soles Mexicali employed a 2-3 zone for much of the first half, daring Tec Mty to shoot from the outside. The strategy worked early, as the visitors shot just 3-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. However, Tec Mty adjusted by attacking the middle of the zone with high-post screens and dribble penetration, which opened up kick-out opportunities. They finished the game 10-of-25 from three-point range, a stark improvement after the first period.

Tec Mty Toluca, meanwhile, relied on full-court pressure to disrupt Soles' rhythm. The pressure forced 15 turnovers, which Tec Mty converted into 18 points. Soles' half-court offense was efficient when they beat the press, but the turnovers proved costly in a one-point game. On the glass, Soles held a slight 38-35 rebounding edge, but Tec Mty's ability to hit timely threes and capitalize on transition opportunities made the difference.

Standout Players

• Diego García (Tec Mty Toluca): The forward was the game's top scorer with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including four three-pointers. He also grabbed 9 rebounds and came up with the game-sealing defensive rebound.
• Alejandro Ruiz (Tec Mty Toluca): The point guard controlled the tempo, finishing with 14 points, 7 assists, and only 2 turnovers. His composure in the final minute was crucial.
• Luis Hernández (Soles Mexicali): Hernández led the home side with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. He hit several tough shots but will remember the final miss.
• Carlos Mendoza (Soles Mexicali): The center posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring the paint on both ends.
