Tec Mty Monterrey left Anahuac Xalapa with a hard-fought 71-66 road victory in the Mexico ABE League on October 2, 2026, in a game that was decided by execution in the fourth quarter rather than by raw scoring. In a league known for offensive fireworks, this was a more measured, physical encounter — and Monterrey's composure in the closing minutes proved the difference.

Match Overview

The game started evenly, with both teams trading baskets and neither able to establish a meaningful lead. Anahuac Xalapa, playing at home, fed off the crowd and used aggressive perimeter defense to disrupt Monterrey's rhythm early on.

Tec Mty Monterrey gradually settled into their offense, finding success with ball movement and inside-out play. By halftime, the contest had settled into the pattern that would define it: short runs, quick answers, and very little separation.

It was only in the final quarter that Monterrey pulled clear, converting key baskets in the half court and making their free throws when Xalapa were forced to foul.

Key Moments

• Back-and-forth opening: Neither team led by more than a handful of points through the first two quarters.
• Xalapa's home push: A strong stretch in the second quarter gave Anahuac Xalapa a narrow lead and the momentum going into the break.
• Monterrey's third-quarter adjustment: Improved defensive pressure and better shot selection flipped the game's momentum.
• Fourth-quarter execution: Monterrey scored the important baskets down the stretch, while Xalapa's offense stalled at the worst possible time.
• Closing free throws: Ice-cold shooting from the line sealed the five-point win.

Tactical Story

Anahuac Xalapa's approach was built on defensive energy and getting out in transition. It worked for long stretches — their guards pressured the ball, forced turnovers, and turned them into quick points at the other end.

Tec Mty Monterrey responded by slowing the tempo. Rather than trying to match Xalapa's pace, they worked the ball into the post and used screens to generate open looks. That patience paid off in the fourth quarter when Xalapa's legs appeared to tire and their defensive rotations slowed.

The rebounding battle was also crucial. Monterrey's ability to limit second-chance points kept Xalapa from building the kind of run that home crowds often inspire.

Standout Performances

Monterrey's leading scorer carried much of the offensive burden, hitting tough shots in the mid-range and attacking the rim when the defense overplayed. Their interior players contributed important baskets and controlled the defensive glass in the second half.

For Anahuac Xalapa, the backcourt duo combined well, pushing tempo and generating steals. Their effort was undeniable across 40 minutes; the difference was simply a handful of missed shots in the last five minutes.

Season Impact

Road wins in the Mexico ABE League are valuable, and this one keeps Tec Mty Monterrey moving in the right direction. For Anahuac Xalapa, the 66-71 loss is a frustrating result — they were competitive throughout and will feel the game was there to be won. Closing games with better shot selection will be the priority going forward.
