How Johor Southern Tiger BC Built the Win

Johor’s best basketball came in the first half, when they controlled the defensive glass and forced Perak into contested jump shots. The Southern Tigers scored 18 second-chance points before halftime and repeatedly attacked the rim through their forwards. Their half-court offense was patient, often working the ball inside-out before finding open cutters along the baseline.

After leading 46-39 at the break, Johor extended the advantage to 12 points early in the third quarter. A quick 6-0 run, capped by a transition dunk, made it 58-46 and prompted a Perak timeout. But Perak Wilma responded with a determined 15-4 run of their own, cutting the deficit to 62-61 and setting up a dramatic final period.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Perak took their first lead of the second half at 70-69 on a corner three-pointer, but Johor answered with a 7-0 spurt to regain control. In the final two minutes, Johor converted 8 of 10 free throws to keep Perak at arm’s length. A last-second three-pointer from Perak made the final score 89-85, but Johor had already done enough to secure the win.

Tactical Story

Johor Southern Tiger BC’s game plan centered on interior dominance and offensive rebounding. They finished with a 42-34 advantage on the boards, including 14 offensive rebounds, which led to numerous second-chance opportunities. Their big men were active on the glass and also effective in pick-and-roll coverage, forcing Perak’s guards to take tough mid-range shots.

Perak Wilma stayed in the game through their three-point shooting. They made 11 triples and used dribble penetration to collapse Johor’s defense before kicking the ball out to shooters. However, Perak struggled at times with turnovers, committing 14 for the game, and Johor turned those mistakes into 17 transition points.

The free-throw line also proved decisive. Johor attempted 28 free throws and made 22, while Perak went 16 of 21 from the stripe. That six-point advantage at the line, combined with the rebounding edge, helped Johor overcome a cold shooting night from beyond the arc.

Standout Performances

Johor Southern Tiger BC’s starting power forward was the game’s most dominant inside presence, finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds. He controlled the paint on both ends and drew enough contact to reach the free-throw line 10 times. The team’s point guard added 17 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals, orchestrating the offense with composure down the stretch.

Perak Wilma received a standout performance from their shooting guard, who scored 23 points and knocked down five three-pointers. Their small forward contributed 18 points and 6 rebounds, while the center added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Perak’s bench provided a spark in the third quarter, helping fuel the comeback that briefly put them ahead.

Johor’s sixth man also made an impact with 13 points in 20 minutes, including two crucial baskets in the fourth quarter. His energy on the defensive end helped disrupt Perak’s rhythm during the final five minutes.
