KK Madzari produced a composed and physical home performance to beat BC Strumica 2005 83-68 in the Macedonian First League, turning a tight first half into a convincing victory with a decisive third-quarter surge. The win gives Madzari an important boost in the standings and reinforces their reputation as a difficult team to handle on their own floor.

Match overview

Played in front of a lively home crowd, the game began at a fast pace. Strumica looked comfortable early, attacking the basket and forcing Madzari into a handful of contested shots. Madzari settled quickly, however, and used their size inside to build a narrow advantage after the opening period.

The quarter-by-quarter scoring reflected Madzari’s growing control: 22-16, 19-17, 24-15, 18-20. The home side led by eight at halftime, then blew the game open in the third quarter with a run that changed the momentum for good. Strumica competed until the final buzzer, but the gap never returned to single digits in the closing minutes.

Key moments

The most important stretch came midway through the third quarter. Leading 48-40, Madzari produced a 14-2 run that pushed the advantage beyond 20 points. The sequence featured back-to-back three-pointers, a steal that led to an easy transition basket, and strong offensive rebounding that gave the home side second-chance opportunities.

Strumica tried to respond with a zone defense and a quicker lineup, but Madzari’s ball movement held up. Every time the visitors threatened to cut into the lead, Madzari found an answer — either through a drive to the rim or a calm mid-range jumper late in the shot clock.

Tactical story

Madzari’s defensive approach was the foundation of the win. They crowded the paint, forced Strumica into difficult outside shots, and controlled the defensive glass. That rebounding edge allowed Madzari to play with pace, and their guards consistently beat Strumica down the floor in transition.

On offense, Madzari shared the ball well and attacked mismatches inside. When Strumica doubled the post, the home side made the extra pass and knocked down timely perimeter shots. Strumica, by contrast, relied heavily on individual scoring and struggled to generate clean looks once Madzari tightened its half-court defense.

Standout performers

• Nikola Stojanov led Madzari with 21 points and nine rebounds, scoring from both inside and beyond the arc.
• Emil Trajkov added 17 points and eight assists, controlling the tempo and making several key plays in the third-quarter run.
• Marko Iliev recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring the defense and limiting Strumica’s second-chance points.
• For Strumica, Petar Nikolov finished with 19 points, while Stefan Ristev added 14 in a losing effort.

What the result means

The victory strengthens Madzari’s position in the upper half of the Macedonian First League table and gives them momentum heading into the next round. For BC Strumica 2005, the defeat highlights the need for more consistent half-court execution and better rebounding against physically stronger opponents. Strumica will look to respond quickly, but this night belonged to Madzari’s defense, depth, and composure.
