MZT Skopje earned a hard-fought 81-73 road win over KK Kozuv in the Macedonian First League, relying on a decisive third-quarter run and timely perimeter shooting to hold off a determined home side. The victory keeps MZT in the upper reaches of the standings and adds another important result to their season.

The third quarter proved pivotal. MZT came out of the locker room with renewed defensive intensity, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy baskets. Quarter-by-quarter breakdown

Key moments

The decisive stretch came midway through the third quarter. With Kozuv within three points, MZT scored eight straight points, including two three-pointers and a put-back dunk. That run forced Kozuv to call timeout and shifted the momentum permanently. Kozuv cut the lead to five in the final period, but MZT responded with a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Standout performers

MZT Skopje’s guard play was excellent. Their backcourt controlled the tempo, broke down Kozuv’s defense off the dribble, and knocked down clutch shots. The frontcourt also contributed heavily on the boards, especially on the offensive end, where second-chance points proved crucial. For KK Kozuv, their big men fought hard in the paint, but the team struggled to contain MZT’s dribble penetration.

Tactical story

MZT’s defensive pressure was the key to the win. They extended their defense, trapped ball screens, and forced Kozuv into rushed decisions. Offensively, MZT played with pace but also showed patience in the half court, moving the ball side to side until an open shooter emerged. Kozuv, meanwhile, relied too heavily on individual plays and struggled to generate consistent offense against MZT’s switching defense.

What it means for the season

This is a valuable road win in the Macedonian First League. MZT Skopje demonstrated the experience and composure expected of a title contender, while KK Kozuv showed they can compete but must improve their late-game execution. The 81-73 final score reflects MZT’s ability to make winning plays down the stretch.
